Morning tomball.

The Isreali's made very good use of "out of date" armor early in their history. The "Super Sherman" comes to mind

Looks like someone took a wrong turn. I buried my 290M because I pulled off on the shoulder for a M60. The scraper started sinking and took the tractor with it.

RE: #86 no tanker I was a University of Music, Science and Culture wannabe. Only spent thirteen days at Quantico due to busted up shins.

Regards the M-48 vs M-60 in Vietnam question, from my readings I was not aware of any M-60s making it to VN. I have a paperback somewhere that was writen by a Sgt. who was a TC commander in Vietnam and they used M-48s. IIRC the title was Tank Sergant, and would have been in 67-68 time frame. I do recall that his unit was in Pleiku by accident when the Tet offensive began.

Ralph Zumbro. Great book. Nice guy. We had an email discussion about Strykers once. He hates 'em.

I saw him on Linda Vester's show. Hit the mute in time to hear the host quote 'Operation Truth's' founder. NPR and CNN are truth, it seems, and FoxNews has an agenda. *sigh*...they care about women and children, too, don't you know - I believed, too, once.

We can surrender America to EU-UN global socialists, serve allah today, continue to ignore the mass graves, believe the press, vote Democrat.

The war will be considered "legitimate" in the eyes of the world's elite. The troops will be portrayed as instant heroes fighting for a PC cause...and welcomed in Hollywood, on America's campuses - by politicians in big cities, pandering to a misinformed electorate.

Who could blame them today.

My apologies to this brave Veteran who left the service to help his fellow troops during wartime.

Thank you for your service.

God bless you, and all of our troops.

More funnies:

Armored Vehicle Launched Bridge

One of these accidently ran over a kid in a ville between Camp Casey and Rodriguez Range. All hell broke loose. I believe this incident played a role in the changes going on in USFK.

M60A1 Alacrán (Scorpion)

These Spanish army Combat Engineer variants of the M60 tank are assigned to the "Brunete" Mechanized Infantry Division. Their Spanish designation is Pioneer Tank M-60CZ-10/25E Alacrán (Scorpion).

This searchlight was a major pain in the butt. Fragile, got hot. Had white light bright enough to illuminate a Zeppelin over London. Almost never used white light. Gave away your position. Used Pink Light, active InfraRed, which was only visible in our IR sights and periscopes.

I second that! I wasn't too anxious to use the IR, either, when I found out anyone with an IR device could see us as plain as day.

I'm with you, Sam. German beer is the best there is, makes most American beer taste pretty weak.

When we were out in the countryside, the Civil Affairs guys followed behind us with their checkbooks. As I recall, there were some little white road markers on the side of many roads, that were really hard to avoid at times.

I always wore my tanker jacket. I heard a rumor later on that some general who was too full of himself tried to make the tankers wear field jackets.

Great thread! Wasn't the M60A1 a beaut!

BTW, now that John Fraud Kerry has told his story, I suppose I can tell mine. I was in black ops, using my M60A1 to run CIA agents into Czecho. Still have the happy hat one of 'em gave me.
