Good morning Mayor. I heard when the made the movie there were no M-10's available so they used a Sherman, Audie Murphy wasn't really pleased with it because he wanted it to be accurate.

Brig. Gen. "Chuck" Yeager pushes his F-15D fighter through the sound barrier high above Edwards Air Force Base in the Mojave desert. The date is 14th. October 1997, 50 years to the day since Yeager became the first man to fly faster than the speed of sound, in the Bell X-1. The 'ghost' of the X-1 sits on Yeager's wing for his last military flight.

Excellent EOD. What some consider heroes sure have changed haven't they. One of the reasons we didi today's thread was to highlight the difference between a real hero and a self-proclaimed one.

Morning, folks. Haven't had much time to post lately, but couldn't resist this one.
Murphy was sure one class act, unlike a certain veteran who comes to mind.
On the other hand, he was one lucky sob, taking the chances he did.
I haven't read his biography; I've just seen the movie. According to Hell and Back, Murphy wanted to pursue a postwar Army career, but his leg wound, aggravated in this battle, rendered him medically unfit. So, Hollywood was second place to the Army in Murphy's priorities. Sounds right to me.
The Third I.D. was one of those units that always seemed to turn up in the worst fighting. It's amazing Murphy could serve with that unit from North Africa to Sicily to Anzio to Germany, win all those medals - and survive.

Sure beats serving only four months. He actually got shot in the butt or at least that is where it came out. Read his book it is incredible. He had a lot of trouble with PTSD in his life and was tortured by it. Everytime he would aim a guy, in his mind he would see a man's face in it. He was quite a guy.
I remember when the movie first came out, I was about 12. I asked my father why they would let a wimpy little guy like that play the part of a hero. I thought it should be John Wayne or somebody more fitting. My father explained things to me.
