I got to see the Space Shuttle land there once. That has to be something to see live!

When the B1's where first deployed to Dyess AFB, they would come on friday afternoons to Reese AFB and shoot touch and goes for an hour or so. The last pass was always done at about a 100 feet, wings swept, full throttle with burners, probably 350-400 knots.
Those were good days to be on the flightline!

I was stationed at Dyess AFB, TX when the first B-1B went on Nuclear Alert, 1 October 1986. When one does a full afterburner take off at night, it looks like Battlestar Gallactica with blue flames coming out of the tail.

Morning PE. Give you some idea of the size of the Flying wing. The Black Widow was not a small plane.

Afterburners at night are always cool to see. T-38's don't have a large flame, but are still cool.
Watching B1's at night must have been like being in heaven.

It was pretty close. After a while you become complacent because you're always seeing a couple in the pattern.
I know what you mean about the awesome power of seeing, hearing and feeling one make a high speed, low altitude pass right over your head. It'll suck the air right out of your lungs.
