There were women, too, SAM. Missile crew opened to women in the early 80's.

I'm an old guy, I still have a problem picturing women in certain military positions. Oh I know there are women serving differently than in the older days and in some cases I even agree, it's just hard for me to say "men and women" when talking about the military. I appreciate their service as much as anyones, just an old habit I'm having trouble breaking.

The best operations controller I ever served with was a former missile crew member. She was on duty in early August of 1990, when Iraq invaded Kuwait. It was a Saturday. I have no idea how she found all of the Battle Staff since only half of us had our bricks (sorry, hand-held radios)but she managed to get us assembled in less than 2 hours.

Titan II Underground Launch Control Room
This kind of real steel won the Cold War.
My fraternity brother's father was one of the co-authors of Fail-Safe.
The left would have us believe that the other side, be it Communist or terrorist, "loves its children just as much".
No.
Now reading Notra Trulock (FReeper ntrulock), Code Name Kindred Spirit wherein as a Soviet analyst at NSA he and others learned the Soviets were planning to survive the first exchange to launch secondary attacks.
Reagan then, and Bush now, understand that really "thinking the unthinkable" means knowing the enemy is capable of craven evil--because the enemy is craven evil.
God Bless the vets and troops--it's you-all (not Edward R. Murrow and Walter Cronkite) who've kept us free.

Titan II's were city killers and widow makers. 5 megaton yield sitting on top of a cylinder of hydrazine and red fuming nitric acid. I am familiar with two very bad accidents involving Titan II's.

I recall when Sam and I were guests of the USS Tarawa (2 of the sailors were women) that Sam called them as a whole "guys" and said he meant it as a compliment. I agree.
I just say guys or I say men when they are in the majority and I'm lazy. I'm assuming people know if there were women involved in whatever I'm talking about that they aren't left out, I just hate always saying guys and girls or men and women or him or her....I'll stick with guys. I always liked being one of the guys anyway.

My CEO boss always says "guys and gal" since he supervises 4 males and one female. I directly supervise 5 females and 2 males and I say "Y'all" since I'm from Alabama. The rank and file in Montana love the southern accent.
Today they called me to come down to the Customer service appeals area and when I arrived, they had a birthday cake waiting. Only problem was that today wasn't my birthday. The company e-bulletin board lists both birthdays and anniversaries. Today was my anniversary of hiring, not my birthday.
They all blushed and both of their managers were laughing about it.
What a blast. I said, "Thanks, y'all."
