To: snippy_about_it
For what was considered a "secondary theatre" it was a miserable place to have to fight. So much for Churchill's "Soft Underbelly", while the Italian Campaign did tie up some German forces, for the most part they were able to hold up larger forces with minimum expenditure.

Before dad went overseas he was with the 2nd Cavalry, so as he said "I took charge of the horse." He also took charge of three German stable orderlies. They looked after the horse (and lived in the barracks and got 3 squares, which they much preferred to a POW camp), and dad rode "Jack" every day.Morning AnAmericanMother, Thanks for sharing about your dad.
I thank him for his service.
That last part is so typical GI, they always find a way to make the best out of a bad situation. You just gave me an idea for thread, I'll have to see what I can find out there on the subject.

1964 President Lyndon B Johnson declares "War on Poverty"Trillions of dollars of weatlh conficsated from the producers, redistributed to the non-producers, 40 years later and we still have poverty and non-producers demanding more. As a producer, I'm one of the losers in the Socialist "War on Poverty"

She did it in 5th grade, so it's a bit on the simple and straightforward side. That'll make it even more special, it'll be coming from a child's perspective.
