My wife's great grandfather is (supposedly) of indian eritage.
Trying to verify this is proving more difficult than making Clinton tell the truth.

There's a bit of confusion as to WHERE he was born, and no-one wants to talk about it oddly enough.
Small air of mystery to it, but we're also talking about my wife's grandparents here who don't seem to like to talk about family much anyway.
Finding his record of birth is proving impossible, those who'd know where to look seemingly don't want the info found.
So, for now, tracking the wife's family tree is at a brick wall.

Heck, one branch of my family was traced back to 1600's Germany, another to France the same era.
The others tend to dead end at certain times and places, and others are interesting to track down.
My family was somewhat nomadic here in the US, they wandered out west, and then back again.
But Ohio seems to be the center of our wanderings.

Ohio, the nexus of my familie's activity.
Seems every generation to generation and a half we end up in Ohio.

LOL!
Isn't it fun trying to track down relatives who do this?
Still trying to figure out why they thought Nevada was a good idea to go to for at least half a generation.
Then they trundled on back to Ohio yet again..
Bradner area of Ohio actually.
Nice small town, peaceful, highest point nearby is 548 feet above sea level, and is the local winter sledding spot..
In the middle of a cemetary.

No offense, but I think this telling of the story is much too kind to John Ross. There's no reason to think he wasn't directly involved in the assassinations.
And as for the Trail of Tears, and Andy Jackson's role in the removal of the Cherokees, Robert Remini makes an interesting case for the view that the Cherokee would not have lived to the 20th century (much as happened to the Catawba, Powhatan, and other SE tribes) if they had not been removed to reservations. For what its worth.
To: stand watie
did you ever notice that when the damnyankees murdered a whole bunch of POWs and/or innocent Indian civilians it is A-OK, but every time a good 'ole rebel killed somebody/a bunch of damnyankee somebodys in honorable combat, that it was an Indian massacre?????Yeah I noticed that early on in my reading of history. It's true that the victors write the history.

Thanks for your input. I know almost next to nothing about John Ross. As for the Trail of Tears, it's real hard to look at that incident and see any good.
