Army. I am not sure what division or anything. He did not talk much about it. He would not go see Saving Private Ryan. I can understand that. It was hard for me even to sit through the first 20 min. He did manage to tell me a few things though. He was one of only of a few out of his platoon to survive. He lost all of his teeth for some reason when he was in Europe. He also got a lugar. My brother in law still has it.

Thanks Snippy. We go for the first ultrasound on tuesday. Msdrby wants to know the gender, I could go either way I think.

He also got a lugar.Good for him. That generation surely didn't talk much. There were so many of them and to most they felt is was "just their duty" and no big deal to talk about. I sure there were many things in their mind they needed to push to the back for their own sakes.
Thanks for sharing with us today.

Msdrby wants to know the gender, I could go either way I think.Boy or girl, I have an idea this child will be raised conservative and with a good knowledge of our history. That's a good thing.
So how far along is the baby and you know you will now have to keep us updated as we will consider the child one of "our own". ;-)

Baby is due in mid-May. Sure thing on the updates.
I don't think a conservative upbringing will be a problem.LOL

My Father-in-law was at Omaho too. He was running landing craft in on the first wave.
As far as I know he's only talked to me about it.

Yeah Rommel had a habit of being missing at decisive moments, He was away when Monty started the El Alemain offensive too.
I wonder if the Panzer reserves would have been moved earlier if he were on the spot.

He was probably with the 1st or 29th Infantry if he went in at Omaha, unless he was with an attached supporting unit.

Speaking of jet fuel. This is one of the refeulers I drove in the USAF.

It's one of the smaller 500 gallons units.

Yeah Sam, that's it. I remember the Ist division badge. BTW, In a Chicago suburbs, there is a place called Cantigny. It has a Ist division museum there. It is a great place. I have been there many times. If you are ever in Chicago, it is a must to go there. It is run by the Robert McCormick foundation.
