Oh Well. Looks like you'll need Plan B.

Not bad here today. No rain or snow. Temps have warmed up a lot, I have some windows opened to clear the house air. A few clouds, but I see blue skies.
Painters are coming back this afternoon. ugh! My gosh I will be sooooooo glad when this is completed.
It's really looking sharp now. But does need to come to and end. I will take some pictures and post them probably after Christmas. I don't have a digital camera so it takes a bit to fill a roll of film.

I'm in.
Sad to read the fate of ships like that.

It took a while for the navies to figure out that ships without air cover were vulnerable. Unfortunately once again the crews paid to learn that lesson.

They do seem to be taking their time with the painting.

I think I once had to go all the way to plan E. A,B,C and D were rally bad plans. I seem to recall Plan E wasn't so hot either.

Oh it's madding Sam. They did not show up Monday because of a communications screw up. Yesterday I was gone, and today they are coming in the afternoon because one on them has a appointment.
To: SAMWolf
Your plan E sounds like my impending SASL river crossing scenario. Sometimes from the moment you set up the board, it appears defeat is certain. Such is life.

Well, didn't a guy by the name of Doolittle predict that ships would be vulnerable to air attack long before WWII?
And didn't they string him up a bit for it?

Or was it Billy Mitchell that stated that?

Are you like me and tend to take the underdogs in scenarios? The Germans in the Bulge, the South at Gettysburg, Frost at Arnhem, etc.

Funny you should mention that.
We have a thread coming up on Billy Mitchell who got screwed over for proving ships were vulnerable to air attack.

Now I'm going to be asked if I have pre-knowledge of upcoming threads?

I seem to remember that there was a small test where they had a dummy torpedo make a hot run straight into the side of the lumbering battleship Arkansas.

>>>The civilian populace was essentially passive, neither helping nor hindering the Americans.
Excerpt from *Into Laos by Keith William Nolan
1st Cav Sheridan tank commander:
"We would hit a mine and the farmers would act like they had'nt seen a thing;they never pointed out booby traps in their fields.Women and children in a paddy would suddenly start walking quickly for the woodline,and then the platoon would be ambushed";
The people never warned the Americans of the NVA waiting for them.
Same B.S. going on in Iraq today Sam

Are you like me and tend to take the underdogs in scenarios? I am. I love a built-in excuse ;)
At the last ASL tournament I played in, I wound up with late-war Germans twice (lots of conscripts even if they do get cool toys like Panzerfausts and Panzerschrecks), 1941 Russians twice, Greek partisans once, and an undergunned force of Loyalists in a Spanish Civil War scenario. Defended in all six rounds.
But in this case, you take a single company and command it for as long as you can make it last. Replacements and field promotions are determined after each scenario and what you get depends in part on how well you do on the cardboard battlefield. And this time, the pre-game setup tells me that my company is walking into a buzzsaw of immense proportions. I can't change it - reflecting the axiom that you do what you're ordered to do on the battlefield or they'll find someone who will.

I always find it more challenging to try and beat the odds. Thankfully it's always been using Cardboard or cyber troops.
