Morning Colonel Flagg.

Flamethrowers were great for cleaning out caves. Hint, Hint.

It is amazing the research that goes into all that. Of course up until about WWII the battle ships could shoot a long ways but they just couldn't hit anything. I read the history on the battle of Jutland on how many rounds were fired vs. the hits, but even then WHEN THEY DID HIT WHAT THEY WERE SHOOTING AT IT WAS A BAD DAY FOR THE TARGET.

Shore batteries can shoot just as far as the ships, especially with ship killing missles. You aren't safe where ever you are.

Yes.
Gun range, and armor protection kept outpacing each other.
But erventually, warhead wins.
When the US started using Sg radar for ranging and targeting, it improved the gunnery somewhat.
When one of our battleships had it's SG radar go out, they felt blind, even though they had the older style range finder, binocular range device, they still had a drop in morale.
It's mentioned somewhere in that book I have.
I'm going to have to dig it out.

I think it's basically a mom telepathy thing, handed down fro generaton to generation, "Sons should never be allowed to possess any kind of flame tossing, projecting, or throwing device, ever."

Good morning, Snippy,

There is another approach to the flamethrower, one the Russians have reduced to a simple infantry device. The below rocket launcher fires a projectle that has a "thermobaric" warhead, as the Russians put it, essentially what the Americans call "fuel-air explosive". The Russians call this device a flamethrower in their sales literature, and it is, combined with a powerful blast effect. This thing would be hell on bunkers or caves.

I just never thought about how far they could go until this morning for some reason. I know I wasn't expecting it to be as far as ya'll are reporting. Interesting. Thanks.

Hummingbirds are such a joy to watch. We get them all year round in the valley.

Sure, until snippy gets her camera out!

I can't believe we've removed the FAE from our arsenal. (At least that's what I've heard)

LOL! I've been seeing them everyday at the feeder. Hurry up and bring your camera. I walked up close enough to one the other day to almost touch it.

Radar is great unless you are the radar operator. I have read accounts on some the British ships, the operator could actually see on screen some type of image of the projos the Germans fired coming at them. They were nervous wrecks.

Woodchucks and I have this understanding, if we run into each other it is a battle to the death.
That would make the odds overwhelmingly in my favor.
And then some.

Had heard about that too.
And the Germans had 32 inch coastal batteries, and some even larger.
NOT something I would like firing at me.
