Joe Isuzu's great, great, great, great, great, grandfather, a spokesman for the British Army: "Cornwallis will never be ejected from the South. The British will defeat this American rebellion. You have my word on it."

Moultrie 1776
Named for Colonel William Moultrie, this flag flew over Sullivan Island in Charleston Harbor during the battle on June 28, 1776. Sergeant William Jasper risked life and limb several times to replace the flag after it was shot down, inspiring the Americans by his heroism. The British were beaten so badly they didn't renew the war in the south again until 1778. Look for a cresent moon the next time you see the present day state flag of South Carolina.

South Carolina flag
By statute the flag shall be displayed "upon the inside of every public school building in this State so that all school children shall be instructed in proper respect for the flag," and daily except in rainy weather, from a staff upon the State House and from a staff upon each County Courthouse. The State Flag is also to be displayed in accordance with rules set by the State Superintendent of Education, on the grounds of educational institutions supported in whole or part, by funds derived from the State. It is also prescribed that any person who mutilates, injures or desecrates the State Flag, wherever displayed, shall be guilty of a misdemeanor, punishable by a fine of not more than $100 or by imprisonment for not more than 30 days or both.
A Solar-Plexus search of PhilLaw shows burning the American flag is punishable by napalming, or death by jalapeno peppers, or both.

Fort Moultrie's history covers 171 years of seacoast defense, including the first decisive victory in the American Revolution and the firing onto Fort Sumter during the first battle of the Civil War. The third Fort Moultrie, built in 1809, stands today. By touring the fort, visitors can see how coastal defenses have evolved.

Other historic defeats at Charleston:
My fraternity brother insisted on driving there to see his fiance (late '60's). She thereupon unceremoniously dumped him.
He returned to find a young lady from the town taking an interest in the college theater or Scarlet Masque.
The two lit out for Hollywood where she did some award-winning editing for the X-Files.

Evening PhilDragoo.
She thereupon unceremoniously dumped him.
There was a lot of that going on in the 60's.
Thanks for the sketches and paintings of the major players at Charleston.

Thanks, Phil. Looks like the p.c. crowd hasn't figured out a way to ban the Palmetto Flag.
