'xactly.
They're excellent soldiers, and good at infantry stuff.
(I was artillery, and got to see them strut their stuff only rarely. But when they did..)
Senators rarely know anything about the military, and if they know anything they ignore it or don't understand it.

Reactivated with the outbreak of hostilities in Korea fifteen months later, Princeton recommissioned 28 August 1950. Intensive training refreshed her Naval Reserve crew and on 5 December she joined TF 77 off the Korean coast, her planes and pilots (Air Group 19) making possible the reinstitution of jet combat air patrols over the battle zone. She launched 248 sorties against targets in the Hagaru area to announce her arrival, and for the next six days continued the pace to support Marines fighting their way down the long, cold road from the Chosin Reservoir to Hungnam. By the 11th, all units had reached the staging area on the coast. Princeton's planes, with other Navy, Marine, and Air Force squadrons, then covered the evacuation from Hungnam through its completion on 24 December 1950.

Truman, Acheson, and Owen Lattimore having screwed Chiang Kai-shek and given China to Mao; while FDR and Marshall had given Stalin Eastern Europe and vast quantities of materiel, why should not the Sock Puppet invade in June 1950?
The rush to demilitarize, cashing in that granddaddy of all peace dividends, relegating the SK posture to pro forma terra cotta warriors.
Hank Holzer got over there in 56 assigned to develop Chinese order of battle, remarking he was a very low rank for such an assignment.
How could McArthur not see the Chinese coming?
Hank has a whole book in the back of his mind, something about a hundred days, and why did McArthur--but I can't read his mind.
Another political betrayal--but our warriors proved superb in lunar conditions.
It's well to remember the United Nations was a Soviet idea for which Stalin demanded five, then four, until settling on three seats to our one--to which FDR patron saint of the Left acceded.
The facility on the East River will be best utilized as a USO for our returning warriors to enjoy.

We can settle the peninsular problem by sending Chia Jong a booby-trapped inflata-doll as a countermeasure to his nuclear Nodong gambit.

Thanks for all the additional info on the USS Princeton. That's an impressive list of Merchant Marine Ships, once again they came through when needed.
Clinton and Halfbright made allowed Kim to be the threat he is today. More crap from the clinton administration that someone else has to clean up.

My recollection is that before the Korean War, Acheson gave a speech laying out the containment doctrine and reviewing the areas of vital interest covered by it, leaving Korea out of the picture. So, the N.K.'s had a green light from the U.S. that we wouldn't fight for the South. As incredible as it may sound, it seems that neither State nor Defense appreciated before the war that the Korean peninsula is like a dagger aimed at Japan and that communist occupation of the South would make the defense of Japan very difficult if not impossible.
Dont even get me started about Mad Maddy Halfbright.

"Reno." I will never forget the picture of an American law officer, armed as if for combat, seizing Elian, trying to hide in a closet, on a phony warrant, to send him to Castro's Cuba. The thing that made me even angrier is that few people thought there was anything wrong with that.
I think Wesley (I am the next Ike) Clark has some splainin' to do about just what he and Reno did at Waco.

I'll always associate Reno with the incineration of American Citizens at Waco. Still too many unanswered questions about that too.

It was unconscionable to send the US military in to attack that compound over a minor weapons charge. Sure the leader was a nutburger, but he had a lot of women and children in there with him. The Dims like to talk a big game about "proportional response" in international affairs, but if someone crosses their domestic agenda they have no restraint about using force here at home.

When you read about Koresch and find out they could have arrested him on numerous occasions outside the compound makes you wonder what the whole thing was about.
