We moved from Brazoria county in ‘79 and don’t keep up with politics there anymore.

umm, respectfully Paul is talking about it.

Pulling our troops out of Europe means they have to pay for their own defenses.

The reason this is such a valuable move is right now, with us paying for their defense they are trying to build a little “socialist paradise”, then the dems point to them as a model for us, all the while not realizing that the only reason they’re not completely bankrupt is because big daddy uncle sam is paying the bills.

We don’t need to subvene socialism in Europe, they need to pay their own way.

Same with Korea. S Korea is a beast compared to N Korea, we still have 100k troops left over from the Korean war... why? Bring them home, and let them defend the borders, or get civilian jobs for the economy.

We have troops in 120 nations, leftovers from the various wars of the 20th century. What it amounts to is paying other countries bills on our backs.

And that brings us to foreign aid. Why the hell should we be taxed to give 4 billion dollars to Palestine?!? wth?

Yet not a shot against them was fired. That’s why it’s called the “Cold War.”

Your point is BOGUS because Reagan fired real bullets to thwart the Soviets in Granada.

What I’m saying is I’m a lifelong conservative, and I see merit in his candidacy, above any other candidate running.

I certainly agree with many libertarians on the republican form of government and a small federal government.

Paul's foreign policy is extremely dangerous to my health, IMHO, and I don't see how conservatives can support it. So I can't get past that, survival, y'know?

There's other things that really bug me about him, but I honestly feel he'd be dangerous to our long term security; that's the biggie for me.

Thanks for your replies...

“is this the part where we mock and deride him and his following while championing Thompson or Huckabee ?”

Don’t forget McCain and Romney. Of course this is the part where those four socialists are championed as the greatest thing since sliced bread. Sliced bread for all, from each according to ability, to each according to need.

I think most would agree the troops in Korea are a trip wire. That’s a scary and sad thought, but without them, the chances of major bad stuff goes up considerably.

and thank you for your civility.

I get you on the foreign policy part. frankly im just not that impressed with A.Q. The Soviets were the real deal. They were an existential threat to the US, but A.Q. is just the product of some shady shit we’ve done over the years in the M.E.

I guess that brands me as a “blame america first” jerk but hell, I think it’s silly to assume that our foreign policy has nothing to do with how other countries see us. It wouldn’t be much of a foreign policy if it were true.

I think the US is first among nations in our commitment to liberty, but i dont think that every move we’ve made has been valuable towards that end.

How about the survival of capitalism? Or survival in terms of medical care? McRomneyThomiani will give us universal healthcare. Have you heard how that goes in other countries?

And yet your touting Dr Leary. What does that say about you?
I have a master in baking and he is mean, I can only imagine how mean a master in business is. My baking master yells at me when I get it wrong, does yours do the same?

no doubt, that’s their function, i just dont see it as necessary. The S Korean economy is like 30 something times the N Korean economy in GDP. A reunification means little kims out of business, not the other way around.

I agree with much of what you said here, and in other posts in this thread.

Ron Paul’s placing in most old media polls is so at odds with the apparent reality on the ground and around the web that I can’t help but wonder if people are going to be in for a huge shock once the votes start rolling in. It could very well be the biggest political story in the modern media era.

Or maybe not. We’ll just have to wait and see. I know I like a lot of what Paul is selling, and I can see his logic in other areas that I’m personally iffy on. Regardless, I’m betting this election is going to be one that will have an entire chapter devoted to it in future history books, even putting aside Ron Paul.

Hmm, I don’t know... that I’m economically literate I guess?

“I have a master in baking and he is mean, I can only imagine how mean a master in business is. My baking master yells at me when I get it wrong, does yours do the same?”

Yes. He takes from me when i fail, but he gives to me generously when i succeed.

As people have seen Pauls stance on the war they are turned off. Chris is doing well because people want a real Republican. Not an aPAULogist reject.

A.Q. did some serious stuff in Somalia, Embassies, Towers twice, the Cole.. and have been quite a seed bed for arms and money and training.

But they’re not the big picture.

The big picture is Islam has been trying to conquer for a thousand years. A small portion of the world has not seen this battle for the since the fall of the Ottoman Turks. This happens to be the part of the world we are most familiar with.

So we think it’s just A.Q. It’s not, it’s serious, it’s deadly, it’s been going on for a very long time, it’s been getting much stronger lately.

Paul is oblivious to this. Of all the candidates only Kucinich is close to this level, IMHO, of ignorance of history and security.

So, in my view, Paul as CINC and chief executive could do great longterm damage at a critical time in world history.

The idea, of course, is that Kim might think he could defeat the South, but not the U.S. The trip wire means he can't try A without attacking B.
