>> Do you know what a “straw poll” is?

From what I’ve seen on FR the last couple days, a “straw poll” must be a small gathering of a few dozen voters, for the purpose of allowing Paulistines to grasp at straws.

I don’t know about the 2nd one, but the NH straw poll on Saturday was a fundraiser and candidate forum for the Strafford County NH GOP.

But if I organize it, I create the ballot. And I count the votes.

Be sure and post the results a couple of times here so all can see..... Maybe in breaking news once, and then rewrite the story and repost as news a day or two later.

Ron Paul is a veritable steamroller now. If this keeps up, he could blow right up to the 3% level nationally. Is there any
truth to the skuttlebutt that the Hildebeast has a large
file on RP and finds him extremely engaging ?

There’s something wrong with Ron Paul. When it comes to the most important political issue of the past 4 years, his position is identical to that of the candidates on the far left.

"Apparently, people who support these candidates don't care enough to show up.

Perhaps these so-called no-shows are smart enough to know that straw polls mean absolutely nothing. That said here's some 2004 Presidential Election stats from Strafford County.

Bush-Cheney 25,825

Kerry-Edwards 32,942

Nader-Camejo 420

“Actually, Huckabee and Tom Tancredo were both in attendance and gave decent speeches.”

Which means... The major candidates and their supporters weren’t there. I suspect Paul will get more votes than Tancredo but less than Huckabee in January in our primary. Of course, none of them will get more than a few thousand votes and none of them will get more than 5% of the primary vote.

"I’m voting for Ron Paul in the primaries."

You can also vote for him in the general election. He will be the Republican candidate.

This is the same group that voted for Alan Keyes in 2000...

Actually they didn’t endorse anyone officially on the national level in 1999. They probably had some that promoted Keyes. Keyes spoke to one of they get togethers in DFW and didn’t speak well of President Bush. Oct. 1, 2001: http://www.freerepublic.com/forum/a3b8f067c49c7.htm

Their Oct. 1999 endorsement #s failed to get the necessary 2/3rds for an official endorsement.

62.4% Steve Forbes
37.4% Pat Buchanan

This year [2007] at their convention in St. Louis in early Aug. they failed again to get the necessary 2/3rds for an official endorsement.... Their selections this time was again representative of their influence:

Hunter — 64.8%
Thompson -35.2%

"Ending the IRS is a great idea, but it will never happen."

You sound like the MSM and Rockefeller Republican approved candidates. That defeatist attitude is a sign of surrender to socialism.

Any great leader becomes such because they can see the wave in the motion of the people and got in front of it, taking credit for things that were unavoidable.

Ron Paul is only surfing a wave that was already there.

He seems to be gathering momentum.

Straw polls among fringe republican groups visited by and/or made up of a large number of True Believers is definitely a sign of progress. Paul is in like Flynn...

On planet Earth where the main stream of conservatives/republicans reside, it is an asterisks, a “who?” as evidence by my informal “Hey guys what do you think about Ron Paul?” at lunch today. One was a lawyer and a member of the state party. His response, after some reminding, “Oh yeah, that guy”...

Ron Paul serves the same purpose as people like Alex Jones. Generally packages himself according to certain basic conservative values, but regarding a particular critical issue his actions strengthen the agenda of radical socialists.

Something doesn’t seem right about it.

Immediate and complete withdrawal from Iraq is foolish.

Staying in Iraq at a cost of billions of dollars a year for the next 50 years is even more foolish.
