After Rush spoke I felt better in an odd way and going to FR I anticipated a "rallying of the troops" but I've read enough cynical, demoralizing and hateful stuff to make me sick at heart. I'm more concerned by "our own" than by those who have always hated Rush.

I agree. Here's a guy who has done more for the Conservative movement than most anybody and now he has a problem and we're just going to throw him to the wolves? If it weren't for Rush Limbaugh, there would be no FreeRepublic.

I'm asking, nicely that we refrain from posting ever single one of these missives. I don't see what good it will do...

It doesn't do any good to hide from the truth. George Bush has said that drug addicts like Rush are financing terrorists and should be severely punished ("Acceptance of drug use is simply not an option for this administration," Bush said here).

Rush has been a very vocal supporter of the War on Drugs, so he deserves to have been hoisted by his own petard.

Posting contrary missives does not mean we agree with the premise of the missive. Better to be informed, IMO.

Limbaugh's popularity will be what it is, regardless of FR discussions.

As I said on another thread, Rush Bashing is Forbidden (at least in my house). Probably need to take a news break for a few days. The piling on is predictable, but burdensome.

A good and decent thought you have here, but not a snowballs chance....

I agree.

The way I see it... he doesn't "owe" us anything. Quite the contrary.

I really don't think it will hurt him much in the long run. It will, in fact, quite probably make him stronger. I'll even bet that in his first show back he'll likely have a great deal of fun at his own expense. The "formerly nicotine-stained fingers" will morph into his "formerly drug-addled brain, and I beat them even then!!" ...or something to that effect.

I'm not worried about him. He'll do fine.

YOU ARE WRONG...Bush was talking about Cocaine and pot, not prescription drugs that come from laboratories in the U.S.

Let's see, so far his drug use has cost him his hearing and his credibility. If that's your idea of "stronger", you speak a strange language.

We need to acknowledge that what Rush did was wrong. To do so is to be honest to ourselves and our beliefs. Having acknowledged that, we should also understand that being personally hypocritical on this issue doesn't undermine the message Rush delivers, even though it denigrates him personally. Rush is man enough to acknowledge this, and to accept whatever consequences come his way. Additionally, assuming that Rush's hearing loss was a consequence of his actions, he has paid a price far beyond what the law would have provided for such a transgression.

YOU ARE WRONG...Bush was talking about Cocaine and pot, not prescription drugs that come from laboratories in the U.S.

That's not what Bush said. He wasn't excluding prescription drugs and he wasn't excluding home grown marijuana. In fact, he's been aggressively closing down California medical marijuana dispensaries that grow their own stuff and help people who need the stuff avoid the black marketers and foreign sources.

Moreover, how do you know what the source of Rush's fix is? It could just as easily be stuff produced and sold by foreigners as it could be if he were buying cocaine.

And Bush says he's emphasizing going after users like Rush:

"My administration will continue to work with nations to eradicate drugs at their source, and enforce our borders to stop the flow of drugs into America.... However, the most effective way to reduce the supply of drugs in America is to reduce the demand for drugs in America."

I agree 100%. To the Rush bashers, I thought the Wall Street Journal said it best:

"...although conservatives think that character matters in public life, we have never bought into the idea that moral credibility is predicated on moral perfection.

If moral credibility were predicated on moral perfection, even our church pulpits would be silent. I'm sure liberals would not agree, but in my view, character has as much to do with how we handle our failings as the failings themselves.
