Arab armies are notoriously poor because Arab economies are notoriously poor. This is ridiculous. The Arab economies are sitting on thousand times the wealth of Israel. The aid we give to Israel is a pittance compared to what Saudi Arabia produces by turning a spigot. The crappy performance of Arab armies is not caused by their crappy economies, but rather both stem from the same source: a culture that considers education to consist of memorizing one book. Cultures that do not subscribe to Western notions of scientific rationalism and that crush individual intiative cannot produce good economies or armies.

I couldn't have said it better--at least without introducing the spiritual element.

Judeo/Christian tradition and theology places surpassing value on the life of the individual.
Nothing motivates a man more than knowing that those he fights for and with value him and will do whatever is necessary to protect and assist him.
Conversely, nothing demoralizes a man quicker than knowing nobody gives a rip what happens to him.

This sounds eerily familiar.

Yes, you're right, Arab economies are sitting on tons of wealth - but not creating it by drilling it. We're really on the same page - their economies are horrible because they do not subscribe to traditionally Western notions of liberty, protection of private property, and individual initiative.
Their culture did not always focus on educating themselves on memorizing one book. That is recent - the ruling dictators and crooks force this crap and convince people that the reason Islam's renaissance is passed is because it moved AWAY from Islam. What they aren't telling people is that they're poor because these idiot rulers stole all freedom

I was thinking the same thing. This is not an ordinary patrol. Israel caught wind of something major. I've read stories about these tunnels for years. Israel knew they existed and they knew small arms were "funneled through the tunnel" (forgive me). No big deal before today.
Begs the question: Why the sudden intensity? Answer is the wording "strategic impact."

How many times now has Egypt been given a "Get out of Jail" card in regards to the war on terror.
Lookin back ..we find the Karine A incident.
Israel learned that Karine A was to port in Alexandria..top off with more goodies..then dump off Gaza..and follow on transfer to Lebanon for Hizbullah.
Another ship was siezed..The Santorini i beleive..but many ships were brought thru Suez Canal to Alexandria then dumped cargo's off Gaza.
Egypt is Suez corridor controller..they have manifest on everything in corridor transit..so there is no excuse to say they did not know...besides..Israel showed proof of ships porting in Egypt before dumping off Gaza..so there was a timetable..and clearly..Egypt was governing the transit after ships left Iran.
Sinai...
Egypt is allowed * 1 mechanized division in Sinai on Israels border...yet Janes Intel and other sources note Egypt fielding mechanized assets equal to 3 divisions.
Egypt gets past this obvious breach of the Camp David Accords by stating that the mechanized assets are in logistical transit..in maintenence..for training.
Then we learn repeatedly of tunnels being discovered..well over 20 by Israeli news release.
No wonder Syria just sneers at the U.S.,and allows insergents to trans into Iraq to kill Americans...they are aware of how soft State Dept is...know that words will be spoken to them..and maybe a visit from Coleen Powell.
