This year my shooting has been limited due to circumstances somewhat beyond my control but I am deasling with them and maybe next year I will be able to go. Meeting all in Alaska for that hunting and fishing sounds really great.

Did ya hear the latest? Fox News reported the male victim was a "bear expert", from Malibu. He now has a first class education on the digestive track of a bear.

That picture looks like fun! But remember, this is 2003, so NO smoking, NO drinking, NO campfire, and NO off-color jokes.
Other than that, we'll have a rip-roaring good time!
(Would the guys in that picture recognize America today??)

A knife against a bear is at least potentially winnable. Daniel Boone did it, although it was a black bear, something that one could wrestle. To get behind the bear and hang on while trying to get the point into a neck artery would be the plan. A spear might work, too, since that is confusing to animals.

Do you know what plastic spaghetti forks or tongs look like? Sharp little fingers or teeth at the end for grabbing pasta out of the pot? One of my favorite snorkeling pranks is to sneak up behind a buddy and grab their leg between a pair of them. Always great for a laugh....later.

that movie had Anthony Hopkins and Puke Baldwin....Baldwin in collusion with Hopkins young wife tries to kill him but old Anthony is too wise.
The bear scenes are great....that is a big Brown.

I think the idea with a spear against large dangerous game is to plant the butt end in the earth, and let the charging animals momentum impale him.
I guess you gotta be a pretty cool customer to pull it off, since you'll only get one chance to make it good, and if Mr. Griz or Simba swats it aside, you're lunch.

That's the one. I can't stand Baldwin, but it's still a great flick. Almost an "Alaskan survival training film." You can learn by their mistakes, and gain by some of their ideas.

I always recall the old Wide World of Sports where Burt Reynolds shoots a Grizz in BC with a Weatherby 300 mag. and it turns and charges him and Burt and the camera crew haul ass and the guide drops the bear at about 15-20 yards with a 10 bore stopper gun. It was priceless.

Sort of, both Grizzlies and Kodiaks are brown bears. Most Grizzlies top out around 900lbs. Kodiaks around 1600lbs. You can think of Kodiaks as a super-sized Grizzly.

Heck, I could have croaked twice in the last two years and a couple more times before that. I don't think I'll ever get too old to tote a rifle because I can't think that far in advance.
I would like to plan on some sort of gathering. I have't even met Squantos or TexasCowboy yet.
