I think, on balance, this president has been strong, and I will support him for reelection. RE above Kudos for clarity sake.

I would not at all advance the idea that Keyes "likes and approves of President Bush" (though I am aware that some do).

Very honestly stated - and I thank you for that.

The thing is, the 9/11 charge (which I've not seen proven) aside, I maintain that Keyes spoke of Bush's decision as evil and not Bush himself.

But, particularly when coupled with that "bullet that kills you" remark, I think it is reasonable to draw the conclusion that Alan Keyes considers him dangerous in some way, or a thread - and the inference is made.

I absolutely agree with this: So what if he did call Bush evil? insofar as to say that if he said it, he said it. Let the chips fall where they may, and let people conclude how that reflects on Alan Keyes.

It's a little hard to tell how he feels about President Bush, frankly - that's a pretty hefty flip-flop there.

The Freepers who were [there] took it just the way we did, that he called Bush evil.

Not all of them, as I explained to you earlier, and again, the 70-80% of the attendees seemed to be quite enthusiastic with what Keyes was saying. I say that, once again, because they were on their feet in raucious applause.

Let me put it to you this way: the Freepers that were there whose opinions I value was stunned.

Start with [Zell] Miller

Zell Miller is principled pro-abort whose conscience isn't perverted enough yet to stomach the most egregious and visually sickening form of abortion that exists. I personally admire Zell (who is a former Marine), and he has, almost alone among modern Democrats, had the courage to admonish the Democratic Party for their unabashed liberalism and lust for power. Voting to ban partial-birth abortion doesn't make one pro-life. Are you saying it does?

RINOs that hate true conservatives (especially the Jesus-freak conservatives) really don't like Keyes.

So you count yourself among them..go figure.

They were, huh? Well color me tickled that you don't value my opinion (or the opinion of the vast majority of other people on their feet, applauding at these words of Keyes', which you detest so much). Did I mention I don't care? Thank you for correcting yourself, though.

That's not what I meant; I meant that they are people I have known since I came to this site.

I don't detest him at all; he's not worth detesting. He is, however, an opportunist. And he uses Bush to get himself into the limelight.

If he's not trashing Bush, the media doesn't pay any attention to him.

He came to Duke University this year, before the war; this is one of the most liberal places around.

As me if he stood up for and/or defended George W. Bush.

The answer is NO; he trashed him, to wild applause.

The VAST majority of Dims agree with the overwhelming majority of Dim positions and the only ones who don't (Miller, Broux) live in places where a "normal" Dim could not get elected easily if at all.

Remember the case of former Gov. Casey and the warm reception his pro-life views recived at the Dim convention.

We haven't exactly been strangers over the past few years, Howlin, although, as I don't spend a whole lot of my time here doing the tit-for-tat anymore, I don't mind that you don't seem to remember me or any of our past conversations.

He is, however, an opportunist. And he uses Bush to get himself into the limelight.

That's a specious argument, seeing how Keyes has been politically active long before Bush was, himself, in the limelight. Keyes has been consistent in his praise and his criticism, as far as I have ever read.

As for the Duke University speech, if I remember correctly, he directly criticized the administration's clarity about their stated reasons for the war. That's hardly a trashing. In fact, I can cite for you several sources where Keyes clearly states the war was/is just (whether or not the article you read on the Duke speech made that clear--sometimes articles withhold that sort of information if it suits their ends). What Keyes said was something I had been thinking (and wrote on, in another forum) for some time before I read anything Keyes had to say on the subject. Tell me if I'm remembering the speech's topic incorrectly.

Seems to me that's EXACTLY what you have been doing- telling us what he said.

P.K.B.

BTW, there has been testimony on this thread that Freepers in attendence applauded his remarks so even that bit of your testimony is n dispute.

I stand by my analysis. Your analysis is certainly a valid opinion, but definatly not the only legitimate one. But it is one that, if FAIRLY presented, would be better expressed as "Most people thought he said..." or "it semed clear to me hw was implying..." rather than "He said..."

There is quite a difference in "translation" and correction of willfull misstatement of facts.

Your analysis is certainly a valid opinion, but definatly not the only legitimate one.

It's just odd, don't you think, that so many things that a learned man like Mr. Keyes says has to be sifted through to get the true meaning.

And we all had the TRANSCRIPT of the speech, you know. We saw what it said.
