There are a heck of a lot of Republicans who seem to have no line that cannot be crossed when it comes to voting for a liberal Republican, even after the Jim Jeffords debacle, from which they should have learned something.

Primaries are the time for the fight between true believers and others in the party.

The election tomorrow is not a primary.

Why, does it bother you that we've come to recognize him as a grifter and a crank of the first order?

Hey, looks like you can speak AF'r.

Well, sinkspur, good morning to you, too.

Blackie in #231 posted a link to Wes Pruden's column containing the apology that I was hoping for, and which is much different from what I heard him say on Oprah:
http://www.washtimes.com/national/pruden.htm
" His apology, which startled a rally of several hundred fans in San Diego, was manly enough: "Let me tell you something," the actor said, as his handlers swallowed hard and winced. "A lot of [what] you see in the stories is not true, but at the same time, I have to tell you that I always say, that wherever there is smoke, there is fire. That is true.
"So I want to say to you, yes, I have behaved badly sometimes. Yes, it is true that I was on rowdy movie sets and I have done things that were not right, which I thought then was playful, but now I recognize that I have offended people. And to those people that I have offended, I want to say to them I am deeply sorry about that and I apologize, because this is not what I'm trying to do." ""

This is a courageous act, and indicates that Mr. Schwarzenegger can learn.

I guess no matter what he may choose to say it wouldn't satisfy all.... nor should it as no one can please all...

"What I want to say to you is that, yes, I have behaved badly sometimes. Yes it is true that I was on rowdy movie sets and I have done things that were not right that I thought were playful," Schwarzenegger said at a San Diego rally kicking off a four-day bus tour.

"I now recognize that I have offended people and to those people that I offended, I want to say that I am deeply sorry and I apologize."

Hurts? I'm not hurting. Seems to me that it's Keyes who's hurting; hurting from the fact that people have rejected the "get thee to a gas chamber" rhetoric he's been spouting all these years.

The fact that it is not a primary is a reason not to vote for the liberal, not a reason to do so, as you suggest.

The only reason to vote for a liberal Republican is because the liberal won a primary, removing the choice of any conservative.

Well, unless one wants to vote for a liberal, of course.

LOL...The Democrat party is morally bankrupt and the price for admission, is to spend all ofones time loitering in an intellectual ghetto.

I'm afraid their downfall occurred when they nominated a so-called moderate/centrist/conservative southern politician in 1992.

How about your comments on the substance of the article? Can you handle it? Pick a point and refute it or support it. Then I'll come back and play.

I've already told you once that there were a LOT of Freepers there who were shocked by Keyes' remarks, but you keep insisting that the vast majority approved.

I make that comment on the presumption that, if people are on their feet and applauding, they approve of what the speaker was saying. As I said, I observed approx. 80% of the people were on their feet, applauding. That is a vast majority.

Please...ask JimRob. He was there, and I am almost certain he could see the audience (if I recall correctly, the speakers and/or honorees were at a table, on stage, so he was in a good position to see).

Some were undoubtedly shocked. I don't deny that. In fact, I mentioned the ONE person at my table (of six, I think, but at least five) who didn't seem to approve. I didn't know anyone at the table, so it isn't as if the "Keyesters" were collaborating. Those who disapproved were a small but significant portion of the entire audience (by my estimation, 20-30%).

Is it that much of a leap to take his other words to mean he thinks President Bush is evil?

He might think Bush is evil. I don't know what's in his heart. But I can tell you that there is no quote yet shown to say the same thing, and saying "Keyes said Bush was evil" is being blatantly dishonest and misleading.

If legislation of morality was the only important issue for "true conservatives," then "true conservatives" are so far in the minority they'll continue tilting at windmills. What did Keyes get in the primaries - 4%?

I do actually feel sorry for you, EV.

After what you sacrificed for a mere man, Alan Keyes, you must have to keep the image of his saintliness alive to keep from going crazy.

It would be awful to wake up some day and realize that it wasn't really worth it. You have a real dilemma on your hands.

So I guess ol' Alan can count on your cheerleading forever. You have too much vested to ever let go. To do so could prove harmful to your psyche.
