I agree with a lot of what Keyes says, but he is too "hot" for television; he comes across as abrasive and overly-intense. I think he scares away right-leaning moderates who might otherwise be sympathetic to his ideas. IMHO.

And where exactly did Alan Keyes principle get him? I suppose you could ask, where does principle get anyone?

Keyes called Bush "evil" too, so Arnold is in good company. Yep. Keyes is a total loser. Figures he would support another loser in McClintock. I would be amazed if the recall is approved now, with Davis, the L.A. Times, every TV and cable network, and Republicans all in collusion attacking Schwarzenegger.

A mere list of the positions he supports is enough to make this plain: abortion as a "right," cloning of human beings, governmental classification of citizens by race, public benefits for sexual partners outside of marriage, disrespect for property rights against environmental extremism, repudiation of the right to bear arms no more need be said to show that this candidate is wrong where human decency, human rights and human responsibility bear directly on political issues. Positions? Issues? How gauche ;)
It's all about winning, and it doesn't matter one whit what one stands for.

Unnaturally divorced from these issues, conservatism mutates into mere immoral greed, to match the immoral lust of contemporary liberalism.Well, now we know what was in his fortune cookie.

Very interesting that nobody has been debating the points made in the article. All they are doing is attacking Alan as a person. Arnold's supporters are looking rather bankrupt right now.
To: Rabid Republican
But it would be nice if this thread focused on the article, not on the integrity of Dr. Keyes. If you can't argue the facts...

This is the first I've heard that. I'll have to dig it up, but I think you and I have had this very same conversation in the past, so that's sort of surprising to me. This debate is not new to either of us, and I have no desire to renew it. You're on your side and I am on mine.
However, if you were to ask the others who attended, INCLUDING JimRob, who, assuming he has good eyesight and was paying attention, was in a position to notice (I was in the back and could also notice the number of people on their feet in cheerful applause), that most of those were very receptive to Keyes' message. There was a Republican Party operative at my table (she was an assistant, I think to state Senator Jane Nelson), who did not seem to appreciate the speech. She was the only one at the table who didn't, though. She was in a very small minority, from the appearance of it.

Bump to your post!

I'm so sick of this...why doesn't the Conservative movement break off and form its own party. If they truly believe they are in the majority, than they have nothing to worry about. We are our own worst enemy. And that's why we lose, over and over and over again. We get more conservative, and the country gets more liberal. Now, that's a good way to get things done, isn't it?

All Republicans are not pro-life. Sorry, but its true. All Republicans are not anti-immigration. Sorry, but its true. What about being against the Brady Bill?
What about being against gay marriage?
What about being against gay adoption?
What about setting a clear moral example?
What about supporting property rights?
What about supporting a colorblind society?

EVERYBODY ELSE who commented on the speech, THE VERY NEXT DAY, said Keyes did, in fact, call Bush evil. You gotta stop listening to CNN.

Arnold is a liberal, plain and simple. He just happens to put an R next to his name and people go flippin gaga.
A liberal is a liberal is a liberal.
To: EternalVigilance
No, it's not lame. Especially after watching the Arnold supporters and Tom supporters the last month. The problem is that each camp does not allow the other camp the ability to stand by their convictions and vote their conscience. When the disagreements came up... the names started flying and pretty soon we were in a p*ssing contest to see who was the best Republican... or worse, who were the only Republicans.
What you fail to understand is that both Tom and Arnold can be Republicans. They can both put the R next to their name proudly. And we, as Republicans, can decide who to vote for. That's what the polling place is for.
Where you go wrong is that in your small belief system it is your way or the highway. Sorry, if I vigorously disagree with you.

Dear kellynla:
This is G. Masons mother.
He has just been taken away by the authorities.
They identified themselves as speech police.
His last words as they dragged him from the house were "whatever you do Mom, don't talk about California"!
I hope you understand, kellynla, that I can't make any comment on your post.
Thank you,
Mrs. G.Mason Sr.

And being pro-life is not a litmus test for being Republican. Maybe not, but it is a litmus test for many voters.

Keyes and other "fire-eating" conservatives believe that they are called to warn, admonish, and exclaim the pending doom rather than merely to win elections. They are modern-day "Jeremiahs" in a fallen world warning of the coming calamity, and few will listen. They feel that they are called to warn, not to be "successful" in something as mundane as an election.
To: carton253
No, we are not. Because Arnold is not the opposition. He is a Republican. You are sadly mistaken if you think Republicans come in one size fits all. They do not, and it is silly, stupid, and counterproductive to keep insisting otherwise. So you're happy to elect more Republicans like Jumpin' Jim Jeffords, Olympia Snowe, Lincoln Chaffee, Arlen Specter, Susan Collins, John McCain, David Duke, etc. How nice. And you think THAT is not "silly, stupid, and counterproductive" to the conservative movement?
