I'd count up all the "I's" you have in your essay but I don't have the time. Suffice to say, there are plenty. That makes your essay more about you than the actual topic.

Hey, read the title. It IS about him.

Woe to the world because of its stumbling blocks! for it is inevitable that stumbling blocks come; but woe to that man through whom the stumbling block comes!
(said Jesus) Mt. 18:7

See to it that you do not despise one of these little ones, for I say to you, that their angels in heaven continually behold the face of My Father who is in heaven. (said Jesus) Mt. 18:10

Thus it is not the will of your Father who is in heaven that one of these little ones perish. (said Jesus) Mt. 18:14

Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you tithe mint and dill and cummin, and have neglected the weightier provisions of the law: justice and mercy and faithfulness; but these are the things you should have done without neglecting the others. (said Jesus) Mt. 23:23

Beware of the scribes, who walk around in long robes, and love respectful greetings in the market places and chief seats in the synagogues, and places of honor at banquets, who devour widow's houses, and for appearance's sake offer long prayers; these will receive greater condemnation. (said Jesus) Luke 20:46-47

I must say, an excellent post. I do not consider myself a Christian, but I usually have the utmost respect for the ones I know and meet. You have educated me, and have brought my level of esteem for Christians into an even higher plane. Thank you.

I've been called a fake, a phony... I've been told I must have lost my mind, that I am in sin.

Dan, having met and talked with you, I can say with certainty that you are anything but a fake or a phony; and you have most defintely not lost your mind. You are one of the most genuine and intellecutally honest people I've ever met. Thanks for a great essay.

...Apart from that, McClintock has shown himself to be a poor choice as a leader.
  • He broke his reported promise to at least Darryl Issa that he would drop out if he couldn't win.
  • He irresponsibily dismisses considerations of the consequences of his remaining in the race, on the one hand touting himself as Mr. Numbers, while on the other seeming to lose his math skills when it comes to reading polls and trends.
  • He knows that he is being used by Democrats and the gambling casino's to divide the vote against his party's front-runner, and takes no responsibility for his role as spoiler.
  • He voted for domestic partnership rights.
  • He mooted the subject of abortion by saying he would initiate no change in the status quo.
  • He would have to lead a majority-Demo legislature in a majority-Demo state, yet cannot even work as a team member with his own party, nor persuade most of it to follow his lead...

You are voting for a man who openly fondles women, and his choice of profession glorifies adultery, sex and violence, and you want credibility as a Christian?

The standards for choosing leaders in this cuntry was set by our Founding Fathers: They used the Bible and it's definition as set forth in Scipture in choosing deacons.

1 Timothy:
3:1 This is a true saying, If a man desire the office of a bishop, he desireth a good work.
2 A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, vigilant, sober, of good behaviour, given to hospitality, apt to teach;
3 Not given to wine, no striker, not greedy of filthy lucre; but patient, not a brawler, not covetous;
4 One that ruleth well his own house, having his children in subjection with all gravity;
5 (For if a man know not how to rule his own house, how shall he take care of the church of God?)
6 Not a novice, lest being lifted up with pride he fall into the condemnation of the devil.
7 Moreover he must have a good report of them which are without; lest he fall into reproach and the snare of the devil.
8 Likewise must the deacons be grave, not doubletongued, not given to much wine, not greedy of filthy lucre;
9 Holding the mystery of the faith in a pure conscience.
10 And let these also first be proved; then let them use the office of a deacon, being found blameless.
11 Even so must their wives be grave, not slanderers, sober, faithful in all things.
12 Let the deacons be the husbands of one wife, ruling their children and their own houses well.
13 For they that have used the office of a deacon well purchase to themselves a good degree, and great boldness in the faith which is in Christ Jesus.

Arnold clearly violates the precept that a Deacon must be grave (serious and sober acting and thinking) and without being double-tounged, for he is clearly a womanizer. It also shows he does not rule his family well, for he treats his wife like a chattel property, just like Clinton did with Hillary.

Nor does Arnold have qualifications for a Bishop/Pastor, for he does NOT have a good report without the world.

Your candidate is not substantive, so why do you insist that your critics be so? Somewhere along the line it might occur to you that a man who approves of the killing of babies might also lie to grown adults. Those without principles you assume will always be trustworthy, while those with principles you call traitors.

This essay is many things, but mostly it is an apology for the 'vote for the winner' mentality that afflicts many Americans and a clear(but unintended)condemnation of sola scriptura thinking.
There will be legislation directly affecting the right to life, that the Governor in any administration (even in democratically controlled California) will be able to sign or veto. When Bush v Gore was ongoing, many argued that Bush1 was not very effective in the prolife cause so Bush/Gore what's the difference? The difference is that the antilife candidate will make changes against life. I do not live in California. I will not be able to vote in this recall. I would not ever vote for an anti-life candidate when a prolife candidate was available. Even if everybody said the prolife candidate would lose. Try this
bible passage: Choose Life.
Your sola scriptura viewpoint which I am sure you come by honestly is antiscriptural itself. You should study the scriptures. In your current thinking, you prefer to "focus on WDJS" which I assume means, 'What did Jesus say?' Jesus did not say that we should only do what the Bible says and be totally free to act morally in whatever way we think when the Bible is unclear. (I don't BTW concede that the Bible is unclear here.) He established a Church, he appointed apostles, they continued that appointment to replace their numbers and to support growth of the Church. All of this is right there in the Bible. And that Church is the pillar and foundation of truth Tim 3:15. Nowhere in the scripture does it say that the scripture is or should be our sole guide. This idea is a novelty, not seen until the last 4 to 500 years of Christianity.

Christians (of any stripe)from other eras would die rather than fecklessly choose a leader who would willingly endorse the killing of children. Every reference to children in the Bible implies or states directly that they are a blessing! I implore you to reconsider. I am called by scripture to admonish my brother if I feel he is wrong. If my remarks seem uncharitable then look past that to the thoughts they contain. Ask the Holy Spirit to guide you as you vote. I will pray for you and for all who are voting. Arnold Schwarzenegger, too will receive prayers on my behalf. He professes to be a Christian.
"Now choose life that you and your children may have life" Deut 30:19
God Bless you.

(C) he can win... I wonder if Joan of Arc had said that of the English when God spoke to her to lead a smaller, weaker French army to defeat the English.

I made it most of the way through and several thoughts occurred to me:

1] Here's the dance, cue the music.

2] Your conscience must really be bothering you to go to such great lengths to justify your decision.

3] Bull

4] If every person who said they like Tom, but he cannot win would just vote their conscience, maybe he could win.

5] An "R"nold win gives the libs most of what they want, gives the so called moderates most of what they want, and gives the conservatives nothing of what they want. Unless Tom wins, an "R"nold loss leaves us in the same position.

6] I'd go for broke and vote for Tom.

Brilliant, astute, heart-felt analysis! California is desperately in need of a change in direction. I have many family members there, grew up there. I've watched some of them lose their businesses, unable to afford to hire help.

Arnold is a foot in the door to that change, because it's so realistic that he could win.

Yes! Think of the Supreme Court! Think of the advantage to Bush during the re-election! Think of the 9th Circus Court. Look at the big picture!

Thank you, Dan, for doing just that.

But he is the only candidate who (A) comes close to some of my values, and (B) will actually do something to forward them, because (C) he can win.

Guess that's why the Jews chose to save Barrabas and crucify Jesus...I think you're fooling yourself...

We can all use the wording in the Bible to justify our motives...I'll guarantee you that God STILL performs miracles...God WILL judge your heart...If there is a candidate that will move peoples hearts and minds closer to HIM, that's who you need to vote for...
