The MDs taking care of Rush would not hold a press conference if they could not tell the truth about what was happening with his hearing loss. They wouldn't risk their career by lying for Rush. That would be incredibly stupid. They simply would have said it was a private matter between the doctors and their patient.

Have you ever seen a person who takes any of these prescription drugs for a legit condition? I have. There is no way IMO that Rush could have taken the sustained amount to create this permanent hearing loss and kept A job, let alone his demanding and high-profile job. He is also regularly flying all over the USA and beyond, hired as a speaker and doing golf and charity events. If he was on Oxycontin and taking it or vicodin by the handfuls, he would have been the 'Kitty Dukakis' of the consevatives.
