If you're bored go do something interesting.
When I get bored, that's what I'll do.

Someone wrote here not long ago that Reagan tailored his conservatism to appear centrist.
As tough as that may have been in the Great Communicator's liberal California, it's probably even truer now.
Unless the majority aren't just dupes or plain ignorant. But really are Fellow Travelers.

You know, the problem as it appears to me is that Arnold is a fiscal conservative, but not a social conservative.
That may be why he's ahead, because Californians have figured out that they have fiscal problems and need a new approach, but since California is a notoriously liberal state, a social conservative might not go over so well.
Indeed, that seems to be the case, since McClintock is pretty far behind. Of course, some of you like him specifically because he is a social conservative, and you aren't so worried about the fiscal issues.
However, as I understand it, the fiscal issues are what led to the recall to begin with.

Do you really, honestly, think there's no difference between Cruz & Arnie?Precious little.
Drivers licenses for illegals is enough of a reason to vote for Arnold. Tom will not win; deal with it!

You've done a good job, in the thread title alone, of describing a dismayingly (dismayingly...is that a woid??) large number of FReepers.

The problem now, though, is that Arnold is tailoring his liberalism to appear centrist.

Good point. So many of these "conservatives" are looking at this election like it is a horse race. Instead of voting their conscience they are going to the ballot to pick a winner. If you really believed in "voting your conscience", then you would vote for the only person in the country who has exactly your conscience and that would be a write-in vote for you -- YOURSELF!
So, will you be writing-in yourself? If not, why not?

Tom will not win; deal with it! Perhaps not. I've dealt with it from the beginning, no problem.
But even 90% of Arnold's supporters here admit that Tom is the better candidate by far.
As long as conservatives keep getting sucked in by these crude tactics, liberals will gain more and more sway over the GOP...and the country will be the worse for it.
Deal with it.

Indeed, that seems to be the case, since McClintock is pretty far behind. Of course, some of you like him specifically because he is a social conservative, and you aren't so worried about the fiscal issues. An unfair assertion about me specifically, and conservatives generally. We are quite well-rounded in our agenda, thank you very much.
However, as I understand it, the fiscal issues are what led to the recall to begin with.
Which of course highlights the fact that Tom is lightyears ahead of Arnold on this side of the equation as well.

However, as I understand it, the fiscal issues are what led to the recall to begin with.I guess being a fiscal conservative isn't very principled.

That's not what your side has been saying ad nauseum. Can't count how many times in the last month we've been told that conservatism just can't win in CA these days."Conservatism"? I don't doubt you can't count them as they peobably never existed. Saying Tom can't win and Arnold can is just that, and nothing more. But your "argument" is hopeless once again so you rely on fallicies. Shame, shame. Please show me one post that says "Conservatism can't win". You can't do it.
A unified conservative movement behind the only conservative in this race could have won.
Sure thing. If the entire 35% of registered Republicans in the state unified behind Tom he could have overcome the 40+% or more that would be behind cruz.
But you all had to jump on the bandwagon with the star-struck ignorant crowd.
Reserving my vote for Arnold as nothing to do with his celebrity and you know it, though I won't deny I'm happy he has it as it increases his chances of defeating bustamecha.

I'm not going to go searching through recall threads looking for the comments, thanks. But I've seen it over and over again. It has been a common refrain from the Schwarzenegger supporters.

There is a time
to be practical . . . sometimes Jesus walked away from being apprehended. Sometimes he assailed them vigorously in the sternest language. There came a time when he went meekly like a lamb to the slaughter.
and a time to step into the fiery furnace ready to die or for God's liberation at God's choice.
Doesn't feel to me like now is the time for the latter in CA.

Y'know, I had up a beautiful "Titanic Surging Forward" thread this AM, but it got deleted as "meaningless" by the AM before it hit 20 posts. Yet this one is still up.

But I did live in San Diego for 10 years and still have lots of connections there, which I keep in touch with.
