Nobody, especially a former Ambassador, appears in a country, has meetings with its leadership, reports back (to whom?), without the U.S. Embassy's knowledge. I am sure that there was cable traffic both before and after Wilson's trip between State, probably the CIA, and Niamey. Now, I happen to consider the CIA a part of the administration. Thus, if as you put it the visit was part of a "rogue operation" then a whole lot of heads should roll.

I am still waiting for the case to be resolved. The 1200 FBI files on GOPers going to the whitehouse for political ammo for Hillary Clinton and her cronies to use as they see fit. I would also like to know which of her groupies called the Wsashington Post and leaked information from these files. Anyone taking part in these FBI interviews were assured it was never going to be released. The CIA should know the person creating problems for operatives in the whitehouse but there should also be a look into the Clinton whitehouse FBI file case. We will not even mention the stumbling, bumbling Vince Foster case.

Now, I happen to consider the CIA a part of the administration.

And Bush has total control of the CIA? He's been able to clean out the cobwebbed-heads, even though he has no control over hiring and firing of CIA agents?

Why isn't Tenent being mentioned here? Wasn't Cheney's question to Tenent about the uranium the catalyst for this back-stabbing fiasco? Cheney stated on a Sunday news show recently that he had no knowledge of Wilson's trip until he read about it in the NYT.

Once Wilson went public, his wife's identity was fair game for journalists, IMO, and I don't think it would have been that difficult a fact to ferret out. After all the recent media hijinx that has been exposed do we believe all these "unnamed sources" actually exist?

Her name wasn't difficult to ferret out at all. Her name was mentioned in Wilson's own very fluffy and not entirely accurate resume, which was published on the website of some group he is associated with. This web site is that of the CPS : Corporate and Public Strategy Advisory Group where he is listed as "part of the team." He should watch what info he gives out in his resume if he doesn't want anyone to take a look.

oh yeah, try to get this nation to see the moral relativity between the two. That's a dog we don't wanna fight or a fight we don't wanna dog or a dog we don't have in teh fight or a fight we don't have in the dog or something to that effect.

Doggone if I know. But with dogged determination, wearing out my Hush Puppies, think we can sniff this one out like a blood hound. 'Course, I could be barking up the wrong tree unless we can get someone to roll over, the heel! Well, I'm not going to sit up and beg for an answer. I think is time, no, well past time to play dead. Or mayby just flea the scene.

Head of CIA Weapons Analysis Program Leaving
Reuters ^ | 09-10-03

Posted on 09/10/2003 5:28 PM PDT by Brian S

Wed September 10, 2003 02:16 PM ET

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A top CIA expert on weapons of mass destruction, who became embroiled in controversy over whether the White House stretched evidence about Iraq's programs, said he planned to leave the agency in October.

Alan Foley, who heads the Weapons Intelligence, Nonproliferation, and Arms Control Center, told colleagues in a note dated Aug. 29 that he had been "thinking about life after the agency for some time" and decided to leave after 26 years to enter the private sector.

He alluded to this summer's finger-pointing between the Central Intelligence Agency and the White House over who was responsible for an unsubstantiated claim in President Bush's State of the Union address in January that Iraq had sought uranium from Africa.

Critics seized on the reference, later found to have been partly based on forged documents, as a sign the White House had exaggerated the threat from Iraq to build support for the war.

"While I can't prevent the inevitable speculation that will be generated by the timing of my decision, I want you to know that this is something that I decided entirely on my own," Foley said in the note, obtained by Reuters on Wednesday.

"I can't deny that the pressures of the past few months have not weighed heavily in my mind, but there are many other aspects to my decision, not the least of which is that I'm intrigued by the prospect of trying my hand at a second career in the private sector," he said.

U.S. officials have said White House National Security Council weapons expert Bob Joseph discussed the uranium line with Foley, but there were differing recollections about who said what.

In one version, Joseph asked CIA's Foley if it was OK to use the uranium line in the speech and cite the British as the source, and that the CIA approved that language.

In another version, Foley told the White House's Joseph the CIA had recommended the British not include the claim in their September 2002 dossier on Iraq but the British included it anyway, citing intelligence that the Americans did not have.

Oh, welcome to FR miteymo! Just registered today, did you?

And why do you think this was an intelligence blunder? In the opinion of many, it was a deliberate effort to sabotage the efforts of the President, and Foley, Wilson, and Wilson's wife, were complicit in this plot.

Isn't it fascinating that we would have a new poster today talking about intelligence blunders and such? On the same day that Mr. Foley's resignation is made known. Quite a coincidence, isn't it?

I agree. Very interesting timing.

Notice how he goes out of his way to say this is ony his decision. I bet he was given a strong hint.

Next we should look for Valerie's resignation.

He He He.

There are no such things as coincidences in intelligence matters.

MiteyMo is a cousin, half-brother, half-sister, or some such Clintonian inbred relation to the RAT Foley, et al, clan. Trailer park trash, one and all.

How about a beer MiteyMo, shot a clear (moonshine) or maybe let's get down with some unlabeled mash, eh?

Thanks for the ping. I remember reading that thread. I guess Foley wasn't the only trash that needed to be taken out.

I'm still amused by the anonymity granted to the "CIA" in this story -- as if the agency is some amorphous spirit that communicates by thoughtwaves.

Who, if anyone, at the CIA is seeking the probe, Andrea Mitchell? Valerie Plame, perhaps?

Good point; just more unnamed, unsubstantiated claims.

Maybe it's the legendary T J Wilkerson :

JULY 10, 2003 : 11:51 AM : (CHB'S DOUG THOMPSON ANNOUNCES HE WILL USE NO MORE UNNAMED SOURCES; CLAIMS HE TURNED THE MATTER OVER TO LAW ENFORCEMENT, , BUT DELETES 6 OF THOSE ARTICLES FROM CHB SITE) - "A message from Capitol Hill Blue. . .No more "unnamed sources," DOUG THOMPSON, Jul 10, 2003, 11:51

"Recently, this web site discovered it has been played as a sucker by a source that was used in seven stories that ran in Capitol Hill Blue from September 2002 until July of 2003. The person in question was quoted as an unnamed source in six of the seven articles and by name (Terrance J. Wilkinson) in the seventh. We later learned the name was bogus even though I had known (or thought I knew) the person by that name for more than 20 years. We have turned all our information on this source over to the appropriate law enforcement agencies and, at their instruction, will not discuss the matter publicly until they have concluded their investigations. When those investigations are complete, we will publish a full accounting with every piece of detail that we can produce or uncover about the individual involved. We owe that to our readers."

JULY ? 2003 Sunday early : (WILSON'S NY TIMES OP ED ARTICLE CLAIMS SOME INTEL ON IRAQ'S NUCLEAR WEAPONS PROGRAM WAS SEXED UP) Last week, Wilson cited his inability to confirm an Iraq-Niger nuke connection to conclude in the Times: "Some of the intelligence related to Iraq's nuclear weapons program was twisted to exaggerate the nuclear threat."
But if, as Wilson told "Hannity & Colmes" in October, he believed Saddam indeed had an "aggressive" nuclear program at the time, his claim that Bush distorted the nuclear threat seems disingenuous at best. The diplomat who set off a political firestorm last week when he told the New York Times that President Bush may have "exaggerated" when he told the nation that Iraq sought nuclear fuel in Africa admitted last October that he believed Saddam Hussein had "an aggressive program to try and get" nuclear weapons. Though former acting U.S. ambassador to Iraq Joseph C. Wilson's op-ed in the Times warned that Bush might have led the U.S. to war "under false pretenses" by ginning up a bogus nuclear threat, he was singing a different tune during an appearance on Fox News Channel's "Hannity & Colmes" nine months ago. - "Bush Nuke Basher Admitted Saddam Sought the Bomb ," by Carl Limbacher and NewsMax.com Staff, NewsMax.com, 7/14/03

JULY 14, 2003 : (NOVAK SAYS "UNNAMED SOURCES" TELL HIM THAT VALERIE PLUME IS AN AGENCY OPERATIVE ON WMD) "Wilson never worked for the CIA, but his wife, Valerie Plame, is an Agency operative on weapons of mass destruction. Two senior administration officials told me Wilson's wife suggested sending him to Niger to investigate the Italian report. The CIA says its counter-proliferation officials selected Wilson and asked his wife to contact him. "I will not answer any question about my wife," Wilson told me.
