Most debates are dreadful affairs, disjointed and canned, with panels of journalists asking disconnected questions that allow neither flow nor focus.I knew there would be some spin control...but this?
Schwarzenegger more than held his own, not just with answers to a pool of questions known in advance, but with the often rapid-fire back-and-forth between the candidates allowed in the freewheeling format of this debate. Contrary to many expectations, he didnt falter or even hesitate.
What channel was this on, because all I saw was the actor left meekly smiling and off balance when offering up lame and "disjointed" one-liners to a no account author-wannabe while failing, yet again to offer any kind of reassurance that his canned cliches had any sort of promises behind them. I guess when you have willing allies in the press who float this kind of "analysis" its hard to be criticized; With McClintock chiming in on much of what Schwarzenegger said This kind of sycophantic blather is usually reserved for William Jefferson Clinton.

They are really both decent menYes, they are.
Schwarzenegger surprised me with his knowledge about the issues; he has certainly crammed in the few weeks since he decided to run for governor. Schwarzenegger came across as a likable quick study.
Although McClintock did not display the charisma of Schwarzenegger, McClintock spoke clearly about the issues in a lucid, straightforward manner that I will remember for a long time. McClintock certainly would be my candidate of choice if I had the power to choose the next governor of California.
For the next statewide election, I hope McClintock will hire a acting/debate coach who will help him liven his personality on stage in order to attrack independent and swing voters. His brand of conservatism is not extreme at all, but just plain commonsense.
For this particular election, we have to settle for Schwarzenegger, and I will be rooting for him till October 7th.

I hope we take a clue from our candidates and act civilly to each other. Both McClintock and Schwarzenegger looked much better by speaking about the issues, instead of cheap personal attacks.Bump!

It was a decent article, and thank you for posting it, but but in all due respect, I'm reaching the conclusion that attempting to have a "discussion" on FR about the recall election in California is now useless, and probably counterproductive. The sides have made up their minds, and no one is going to budge, so why bother? It seems so.

This is just too easy smacking down your rationalizations because we Conservatives "paied" attention to what he said;
He has said, repeatedly, that he won't raise taxes
On the other side of his mouth refusing to sign a no new tax pledge.
that he opposes partial-birth abortion and supports parental notification.
But he support ABORTION which is refers to, MENSA Candidate.
He doesn't have one Hillary advisor on his board and you know it.
Warren Buffet, Bonnie Reiss, Rob Lowe, and RFK Jr are all his advisors. Buffet and Lowe are, the other 2 might be alittle too "Green" for Hillary Clinton.
Your in the wrong party pal. Go join the Clintons.
I believe that is SunStar's line, Sell Out.

Good article, and I agree with the author. IMO a deal between Arnold and Tom has already been cut. However, McClintock won't bail till it's too late for Davis, Bob Mulholland, and the rest of the RAT slime machine to really go after Arnold.
To: ambrose
I wonder if Tom would have been more willing to criticize Arnold if he had been seated farther away from him?

See how silly it it?Well I see how silly you are at least.
Are you cracking up?
1. Ambrose posted this article, 2. I don't bother trying to reason with your infantile self so I don't post to you, 3. and as far as I saw, no one else bothered to post to you either because you are whiney crybaby that everyone laughs at in FReepmail who pushes the abuse button every time he doesn't like something.
Now, what exactly was your point again?

I read it.
While hacks and flacks lingered at the site picking through the entrails of a surprisingly lively bird now quite dead, the Weekly was off to a big Schwarzenegger rally at the Cal Expo fairgrounds. There, 1,000 Arnold backers had packed into one of the exposition halls to watch the debate and be warmed up by comedian Dennis Miller and Sacramento Kings center Vlade Divac, star of the Yugoslavian world-championship basketball team and yet another formidable California figure with a pronounced accent. With wife Maria Shriver, Schwarzenegger greeted the exuberant crowd, whose roars echoed repeatedly off the rafters. Confident and buoyed by his performance, the erstwhile actor assured his supporters that only with all your help can I make it, but I will soon be hanging out a lot in Sacramento.
And I enjoyed it.
To: ambrose
Well....I thought the Arnold vs Arianna sparring was funny.
Her shrillness made it easy for him.

She was whining about the "try decaf" crack, saying that if she'd been a man, he wouldn't have said it.
She's right.
He would've said, "Hey, take another Prozac!"
