Linux is opensource to everyone, not just the select few. MS is turning out to only be opensource to the select few, which appears to include China.

It doesn't appear as if IBM is doing any worse than Microsoft. In fact, MS may be worse since it won't release code here in the US but will to China.

Not sure where you're getting your information, but it's wrong. The US Federal Government is deeply imbedded in Microsoft's business, and has access to basically anything they wish, which is the main reason why foreign governments don't trust their products.

I really don't care to defend Microsoft, but with such blatant untruths out there, it's hard not to.

If you think Golden Eagle is bad wait until you get a load of the OTHER TWO, Bush2000, and TheEngineer who troll these threads with pretty much the same garbage and an even dirtier mouth sometimes.

Boy are you ever WRONG there. A globalist is some one who wants to set up a global FASCIST big government/big business DICTATORSHIP, Not someone who merely chooses to use a foreign product. Your "American" software companies like Microsoft, Sun Microssystems, Apple and yes even IBM are the REAL GLOBALISTS, Not the Linux users and developers.

You have finally desided to challenge me in the WRONG AREA. I have studied the GLOBALIST CONSPIRACY for years before there was even a PC let alone an Internet and know full what the Globalists are about. Microsoft and Palladium far more match their goals than anything the Linux Community is doing.

What Linux did you finally deside to use on that old laptop and how is it working out for you?

"Free Republic is full of those like me who question globalists like yourself. Get used to it. "

Liking Linux is not being a globalist. It's an OS. It's freely available to anyone with a net connection. Don't like it? Don't use it. Linux will not conquer the world. It will not advance communism. It will not eat your children. It will not run off with your wife. It will not drown your dog. It's just an OPERATING SYSTEM.

What, that your sources of information are misleading you?

Projects like this have been going on for years.

http://www.microsoft.com/resources/casestudies/CaseStudy.asp?CaseStudyID=11608

And the government engineers have access to everything they ask of Microsoft, which is a lot more than the "peeks" the Chinese got in Redmond.

Are you sure? This is from Microsoft's Linux FAQ:

"Linux is the most dangerous operating system yet. It will re-write your hard drive. Not only that, but it will scramble any disks that are even close to your computer.

"It will recalibrate your refrigerator's coolness setting so all your ice cream goes melty.

"It will demagnetize the strips on all your credit cards, screw up the tracking on your VCR and use subspace field harmonics to scratch any CD's you try to play.

"It will give your ex-boyfriend/girlfriend your new phone number. It will mix Kool-aid into your fishtank. It will drink all your beer and leave its socks out on the coffee table when there's company coming over. It will put a dead kitten in the back pocket of your good suit pants and hide your car keys when you are late for work.

"Linux will make you fall in love with a penguin. It will give you nightmares about circus midgets. It will pour sugar in your gas tank and shave off both your eyebrows while dating your current boyfriend/girlfriend behind your back and billing the dinner and hotel room to your Visa card.

"It will seduce your grandmother. It does not matter if she is dead, such is the power of Linux, it reaches out beyond the grave to sully those things we hold most dear.

Linux will give you Dutch Elm disease. It will leave the toilet seat up and leave your hair dryer plugged in dangerously close to a full bathtub. It will make a batch of Methamphetamine in your bathtub and then leave bacon cooking on the stove while it goes out to chase grade-schoolers with your new snowblower.

"It will rewrite your backup files, changing all your active verbs to passive tense and incorporating undetectable misspellings which grossly change the interpretations of key sentences.

"It will not only remove the forbidden tags from your mattresses and pillows, but it will also refill your skim milk with whole milk. It will replace all your luncheon meat with Spam.

"It will molecularly rearrange your cologne or perfume, causing it to smell like dill pickles.

"It moves your car randomly around parking lots so you can't find it. It will kick your dog. It will leave libidinous messages on your boss's voicemail in your voice! It is insidious and subtle. It is dangerous and terrifying to behold. It is also a rather interesting shade of mauve."

Open source is about sharing, everything you have, pure and simple. I'm all for it, in areas like games or entertainmentware.

But when we are talking about sharing the highest technical advancements in software, like multiprocessor servers and clusters, I am most certainly not for sharing it openly with those that point nuclear missles at us. To overdramatic for you? Tough, this is the world in which we live, and some of us live it up close every day.

Uh-oh. We're going to have to repeal that pesky First Amendment. The ChiComs might buy "books" or "professional journals" and learn about that stuff anyway unless we require prior restraint on publication, with "security review" by competent experts in software (say, for example, Microsoft).

More smears and dirty lies? How about some actual links to real people and their real motives, like the "father of the GPL" and many Linux tools included with each distro:

http://www.stallman.org/

Read it all the way down, if you have the stomach for it.

Like I said, that First Amendment is a PITA.

It's a frickin' operating system. Deal with it.

Yeah they got some of our nuclear bomb designs too, guess we shouldn't care about that either. Why does Linux trick ordinarily decent people like yourself to sympathize with Chicoms I'll never understand.

More precisely the house which is furnished with application furniture. Without an O/S no other software matters. Better we control it than our advesaries.

One more time: it's an operating system, better than some, worse than some. It's not a nuclear bomb. It's not an ICBM. It's just frickin' software.

Why does Linux trick ordinarily decent people like yourself to sympathize with Chicoms I'll never understand.

I just don't give a hoot what the ChiComs choose to do with Linux--they're not going to make it into a world-beating O/S.

Also, kindly note that the guy who developed and manages Linux is a Finnish national; should we send the CIA out to assassinate him or something?

How do you propose to do that? Shoot any non-Americans who write an O/S?
