The pity of France is, it deserves our pity. I don't pity scum.
To: Chi-townChief
Not mentioned in all of this is the ticking time bomb of the muslim slums. It'll be a race to see if France is destroyed by them or the French.
To: Chi-townChief
scathingly honest..........

"This is a country where last year one in five voters -- that is, 5.8 million people -- gave their ballot to a Holocaust denier.
This is the only unfair statement in the whole article. Le Pen was the only opposition candidate running in the final election, and thus the only alternative to continuing on with the existing regime. Probably most of those voting for him did not agree with his views, but just wished to register their dissatisfaction with the establishment.

"it actually conforms to every caricature about it: vain, cowardly, conniving, intellectually superficial, self-deceiving, politically and socially corrupt, with low moral standards (except when it comes to standing in judgment over the rest of the world), fundamentally anti-American and pervasively anti-Semitic. But I understate."
That sums it up RATHER well.

It has become a country that can be ignored,
which no doubt is why it
screams the loudest.
No longer dangerous, it is
merely obnoxious. The pity of France is, it deserves our pity.
Now just substitute France with Democrat...looks the same to me....LOL

Fantastic read!
The French are something aren't they? I used to just consider them rude, but now it seems that stupidity is the correct description.

What a pity!
Unless what I have read is incorrect, that in the last 100 years, more Americans have died for France (defending or liberating), than the French themselves.
I really hope that is not the case, but even if it is, it couldn't be very far the correct casualty count. I lost three uncles in WWII alone.

Yes, but, the French don't see this.
To: Chi-townChief
But how could there be anti-semitism in France? Chirac himself asserted that there is none. (/sarcasm)
To: aynrandfreak
Other countries confronted by a broken welfare system have fixed it. That's what Bill Clinton did in the United States
Bwahahahaha!

That is unfair. I've never heard Le Pen deny the Holocaust. I know he's shown a terrible disinterest in it, calling it "a detail of history," but this is not denial.

"This is a country that earlier this year united as one to oppose the overthrow of Saddam Hussein and cheers at every American setback. This is a country that seeks the leadership of a European Union whose rules it routinely flouts. This is a country that aspires to an alliance with Russia, China and other semi- or full-fledged dictatorship so that it can stick it in the eye of Washington and its ''simplistic'' president."
And this is a country that is proving daily to a watchiing World, how applied liberalism and Godlessness combined, can not only hamstring, but will destroy civilization!
To: capt. norm
It is true.
Vichy gov. in France also gave Jews to the SS. It was the policy to appease even if it was the death of others as long as a Frenchman kept his own neck from the noose.
The English had to sick the French fleet because they refused to not use it with the Nazi's.
There was only ever Two good Frenchmen in history. One was Lafeyette. The other was Voltaire. And both had their complaints of their countrymen.
Most of the accounts from WWII in the words of the men on the line said even the resistance would run forth with their weapons to appear brave. But they would retreat without weapons when they realized the Germans up ahead were better armed. Many instances from 101st, 82nd, Rangers, etc.. accounts of Normandy and inland fighting. Their words were 13 and 14 year old Hitler youth were braver and deadlier then any 100 french.
Let them wallow in their own pity. I have none for the Frogs.
