There is lillte in the article about death with dignity. I can't speak for Terri, but I know that I've given instructions to my wife that I don't want to live in such a condition as she is enduring. My life and death belong to ME. Not the church, not the State of Florida and not the courts. A pox on those who would interfer with my wife's attemps to carry out my wishes as to dying with dignity.

Mercy killing has already come of age in Canada, where 80% of the children murdered are killed by their own parents.

Canada currently has the highest rate of filicide in their entire history.

In Germany, it may be important to recall, by 1938, there was an outpouring of requests for euthanasia of their own children by parents.

The "test case" was Baby Knauer, who was born blind and was missing a leg and part of an arm. After which the prevailing culture simply allowed parents and physicians to euthanize all children who were imperfect.

It is also interesting to note that in the beginning, just as here, there were all the same proclamations about "protective guidelines" in place. Just as in the Netherlands today, protective guidelines have proven to be a myth, time and time again.

But this case has nothing to do with your right to be left to die, though I do suggest you read up on terminal dehydration carefully before you set the stage to endure it personally. It is a slow and very ugly death.

I can assure you that your right to be terminally dehydrated is well-cemented in our society, and very unlikely to be changed.

This case and many others like it are about the killing of the disabled, not the right to die.

I just had this conversation with a local nun. The Catholic Church has disappointed me in recent years, accumulating to the point of disgust.

Limiting Cruel and Inhumane Confinement of Pigs During Pregnancy.

Inhumane treatment of animals is a concern of Florida citizens. To prevent cruelty to certain animals and as recommended by The Humane Society of the United States, the people of the State of Florida hereby limit the cruel and inhumane confinement of pigs during pregnancy as provided herein.

It shall be unlawful for any person to confine a pig during pregnancy in an enclosure, or to tether a pig during pregnancy, on a farm in such a way that she is prevented from turning around freely.
This section shall not apply:
when a pig is undergoing an examination, test, treatment or operation carried out for veterinary purposes, provided the period during which the animal is confined or tethered is not longer than reasonably necessary.
during the prebirthing period.
For purposes of this section:
"enclosure" means any cage, crate or other enclosure in which a pig is kept for all or the majority of any day, including what is commonly described as the "gestation crate."
"farm" means the land, buildings, support facilities, and other appurtenances used in the production of animals for food or fiber.
"person" means any natural person, corporation and/or business entity.
"pig" means any animal of the porcine species.
"turning around freely" means turning around without having to touch any side of the pig’s enclosure.
"prebirthing period" means the seven day period prior to a pig’s expected date of giving birth.
A person who violates this section shall be guilty of a misdemeanor of the first degree, punishable as provided in s. 775.082(4)(a), Florida Statutes (1999), as amended, or by a fine of not more than $5000, or by both imprisonment and a fine, unless and until the legislature enacts more stringent penalties for violations hereof. On and after the effective date of this section, law enforcement officers in the state are authorized to enforce the provisions of this section in the same manner and authority as if a violation of this section constituted a violation of Section 828.13, Florida Statutes (1999). The confinement or tethering of each pig shall constitute a separate offense. The knowledge or acts of agents and employees of a person in regard to a pig owned, farmed or in the custody of a person, shall be held to be the knowledge or act of such person.
It is the intent of this section that implementing legislation is not required for enforcing any violations hereof.
If any portion of this section is held invalid for any reason, the remaining portion of this section, to the fullest extent possible, shall be severed from the void portion and given the fullest possible force and application.
This section shall take effect six years after approval by the electors.

As a person who has worked with the disabled for 25 years I have seen and continue to see many people who are in a similar state. Feeding tubes are common and those who cannot talk are everywhere.This woman's husband is a monster who just wants to move on at any cost. The bishop there should be defrocked!

Ours is truly a Eugenic Society with most of Margaret Sanger's Hitler friendly programs in practice. We have Abortion, contraception and divorce, how can the family survive two income parents and a job market that causes children to live far from there parents. This all has been orchestrated by Industrial "Captains" and it is part and parcel of the failure of an economic system that now must have cheap labor in China, one of the worst societies in history.Make no mistake about it this Eugenic program was intentionally instituted back before WWI.

The Catholic Bishops in the USA are an uneven bunch, with some openly defying Rome. There is much house cleaning that the next pope needs to get to immediately. John Paul II has done what he can to build up the church in the third world. It's time for Good Catholics to stand up and be counted.

Do you have your situation set up so that someone cannot order your "mercy killing" and still profit from your life insurance? Many of the "mercy killers" are really mercenaries, looking for body organs and money from the estate of those about to be terminated by the corrupt government. It's easy for you to suggest that Terri be executed by the state of FL. You are not in her situation and may never be, God willing.

You remind me of abortion supporters: one thing they all have in common is that they HAVE ALREADY BEEN BORN, and they are proposing death for those who have not been born.
