The Atkin's diet is the best. Just drink lots of water. That should not be a problem today as we all walk around with water. The diet is more than "no carbs". After the weight is lost, you then go to the low carb diet prescribed.

Any sudden weight loss will raise uric acid levels which can activate gout or prevent multiple sclerosis or have no particular effect whatsoever.
Carbohydrate sparing diets will induce ketosis, generally, but it is fairly easy to avoid ketosis and avoid any of that "dieting feeling" of irritability or hunger pangs.
The diet works. For those who measure their uric acid serum concentration and 24hour production before starting on the diet, it appears to both work and be safe.
For those who simply go on the diet as some sort of whim without taking proper precautions, well... "look before you leap" and if you don't look first, then atleast land without complaining about how stupid you were.

'High-fat diets are also associated with obesity...Thereby explaining perfectly why the obesity rate has gone up while everyone has been obsessing about lowfat diets for the last decade.
But she does not include a warning about the possible risk of kidney or liver disease for anyone who spends a long time on the diet, possibly because of lack of reliable research to back such claims.
Oh, the irony of it!

Well I have been crashing and burning at work and getting sick of it. I don't think I can go on the full atkins, but I am going to try and just cut out bread, sugar, junk food and see what happens.

I've been anticipating this.
'High-fat diets are also associated with obesity ... Low-carb diets tend to be high in fat, too, and eating a diet that is high in fat could increase your chances of developing coronary heart disease.'
Balderdash. These people clearly did not do their "research" on what the Atkins diet is.
And how "healthy" are obese people growing rounder all the time?
Let reason prevail. In the meantime, I hope millions more people lose millions more pounds on Atkins.

'This type of diet also tends to be unrealistic and dull, and not palatable enough to be tolerated for a long time.'
And the typical English diet is exciting???

It is a fact that if one stays on the Atkins Diet for 70 or 80 years they have a good chance of dying.

'Cutting out starchy foods, or any food group, can be bad for your health because you could be missing out on a range of nutrients,Unless you are cutting out fat, then it's ok. Who really needs all those fat soluable anti-oxidant vitamins anyway? 'This type of diet also tends to be unrealistic and dull, and not palatable enough to be tolerated for a long time.'
Who really likes to eat steaks and poultry and fish and cheese and ham and vegetables all the time anyway?
