Mark Powers of the California Broadcasters Association said he wasn't surprised at Bustamante's challenge. He said the format of the debate allows for long discussions on the pre-released questions, rather than quick sound bites, and claimed that Bustamante and his campaign officials might be nervous.

"They really don't care for the format," Powers said. "After they saw the questions they were scared to death."

LOL, I wouldn't be surprised. McClintock is showing that he is not there to win but to stop Arnold from winning. His attacks and condescending, patronizing attitude, is in accordance with Democrat standards. What a bunch of losers.

Here is an absolutely "must read" article about McClintock.

He REALLY wants Bustamante to win.

Maybe if there are 3 empty chairs then Arnold could debate hold a celebrity deathmatch with the 3 judges from the 9th circuit on the merits of their "recall stall".

I see no reason for McClintock to participate in the (R)rnold fraud. Why should anyone else agree to a format specifically tailored to a professional actor's skills?

What did I misrepresent? If you don't take a no-new-tax pledge you're not ruling out raising taxes. That ain't a misrepresentation, it's simple logic.

Wrong.

He said he will not raise taxes and you waving "signing a pledge" is a red herring and a misrepresentation.

"If you can't handle an off the cuff debate while running for governor, it means that you are WEAK."

Tom's been thinking up answers for all these questions for 20 years and you call them "off the cuff" ???
- like you haven't heard the SAME canned answers over and over whenever he speaks ?

... and I want a governor that considers problems, consults experts, and THEN decides on a course of action. Kind of like Bush.

"So Arnold refuses to take a no-new-tax pledge, like the Democrats...."

No - Arnold refuses to take a no-new-tax pledge, like any smart politician these days.

... besides he's a RINO Rat and you know you just wouldn't believe it if he did -

Gee, everyone is piling on Arnold. I wonder who the front runner is ? Could it be Bustamonte is not really in the lead ? Could it be the LA times poll is a pack of lies ?

Did you see the follow up that Tom agreed to send a joint letter, written by Bustamante?

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/985257/posts

Bustamante, McClintock (team up) threaten to quit debate (joint letter demanding rules be changed)

Aides to Democratic Lt. Gov. Cruz Bustamante and Republican state Sen. Tom McClintock said they agreed to send jointly a letter to the California Broadcasters Association asking for the format change.

Aides to Green Party candidate Peter Camejo and independent Arianna Huffington were also on a conference call to discuss the letter. Camejo said later he was undecided, and Huffington's communications director said the campaign was waiting to see the letter before committing.

Tom does not have to change his message to keep your attention.

If he's right, you could give him credit.

You address form ("over and over") and avoid substance (specific details about why he is wrong, presuming you have any idea of what he says to begin with).

This is not a criticism, but an observation.

My point was regarding people saying that he would make a better Governor because he is a better debator.
If he were running for State debate champion it would be a different story.

But since you asked...

He has never said EXACTLY where ANY cuts will come from - dispite the list of tens if not hundreds that he says he will do "before breakfast".

He has said that Davis's tripling the car tax by fiat was illegal - yet he intends to do exactly the reverse "by fiat" on day one.

He intends to be a "bridge to the past" - bringing us back to Pat Brown's California of cheap housing and open roads -
How ?

He fully expects to have to "govern" by initiative and referendum - who will pay for these ? Why hasen't he done this for the last 20 years ?

More when and if you can play apologist ...

If it's followed by give-and-take, "canned questions" is the best approach.
It pushes the infantile press out of the role of "crisis-creation" by asking questions deigned to entrap. In our sad history of "Presidential" debates we keep going to a format that rewards the guy whose only skill is fast-talking before a camera ---that's how we got x42.
