"Did you both hear what Tom said on TV when asked if the election postponment were anti-democratic? He said yes, it was even authoritarian and French!"
--
I saw a clip, but this wasn't part of it.
This whole delay is totally political, anyone with an IQ of 5 can see that.

I agree with you but I honestly think the recall election will go through 10/7. The state constitution says within 80 days. No "ifs", "buts" or "ands" about it. The feds had no business sticking their noses in a state election. The 2000 election was different, it was a national election. And if the punch cards were fine in November why not now. I mean where was the ACLU in November 2002? And if the recall election has to be postponed because of the punch cards then why not a complete re-run of the entire November 2002 election? And why doesn't the court ruling void all the elections in CA for the past 34 years we've had punch card ballots?? hmmmmmm Well I am off to bed, early rise. Nytol

What did the host do? I don't remember a specific response to that, but Tom did trail off muttering something of a qualifier (which I sort of wished he hadn't conceded) that I couldn't quite catch. I'm sure he didn't mean French as in racially French, but rather French in the cultural tradition of "don't interfere with Islamic incursion into one's country," and French in the vein of "Surrender at the earliest possible moment to the Germans."

This whole delay is totally political, anyone with an IQ of 5 can see that. I don't agree that it's totally centered on this election's politics, it's worse than that. The ACLU is being its hyperactive self, throwing a monkey wrench into the cogs of our governance. It's almost tempting to start advocating property ownership as a requisite for voting, because helping people with barely average intelligence, and illiterate people to vote isn't going to improve our republic's chances for survival.
The ACLU is behind some gnarly issues. It's like one out of five of them are OK but the rest are twisted in one way or another. I just don't understand why they want to interfere with American culture so much.

"I wish somebody in the Arnold camp would start a daily thread where freepers could get news and published views and where rants were minimized. I actually offered to help one of the Arnold supporters to set it up. I would like to have unadorned Arnold material to examine or a place to ask questions or get clarifications. "
===
While it's not an Arnold thread, DoctorZIn is doing an excellent job with his daily CA recall thread, where on can at least see all the threads, and at least can read the article.
JagrMeister did an Arnold thread a few times, but apparently got tired of all the bickering and spending his time more productively on his
http://www.arnoldforgovernor.com website.
I have thought of starting an Arnold thread similar to your Tom thread, but I've been spending way too much time on FR discussing the recall and the candidates already, and keep trying to spend less, so I am somewhat reluctant to commit to starting a daily thread.
I think another thing we should do, and I vaguely recall you and/or someone else mentioned it previously, is that we should have a Davis/CA's status thread ( there were a number of various articles about the business climate, about the legislature passing bill, Davis signing the licence for illegal, etc.) and a Bustamante thread, keeping our eyes on the ball, that they are the real enemy and collect all we can find about them.
Maybe I'll start an Arnold thread, let me think about it. But only if the Tom supporters promise not to try to hijack it. :)
I am sorry that you get disrupted by Arnold supporters, I never do that -- as you said, there are plenty of other threads for rants, -- and it would be nice to keep one each strictly about the particular candidate, without disruptions.

Well .. if the dang chads were able to elect Dufus, they should be good enough to unelect him.
San Diego has had chad machines for years, and we're NEVER HAD A PROBLEM with them. But our county is being punished because we are not prepared to have the new machines ready before the 2004 election.

But Davis brought the same suits, but got slapped down, so the ACLU was running interference with this suit, which finally accomplished their goal.
But I agree that in and of itself the ACLU is pretty troublesome, in and of itself.
As to why do they want to interfere with American culture, the answer is that they started and still are a leftist organization.
Recently someone posted some old "goals" of the communists, re. disrupting our culture, and the list is amazingly similar to what the ACLU is doing.
Here is the link, it's absolutely worth reading ( including the other article it's linked to, which I posted in the same link for easy reading):

We have closure on McClintock getting out the race,
not going to happen regardless if the election is this
year or next.
What we don't have closure on yet is on Arnold getting
out of the race.

As to why do they want to interfere with American culture, the answer is that they started and still are a leftist organization. Well I'm not sure this thread is the place for this, but check out the ACLU's history of accomplishments and see what you think. I can't imagine our society without some of these changes. Believe it or not, I think the Miranda rule has a good deal of merit, although it's not mentioned here. Much of what they've done has worked toward reducing the power of government over the individual, which is a good thing overall. They just seem to have an edge to that pursuit that goes against the grain of our culture.
The history starts out with the Palmer Raids, and in a courtroom confession reminiscent of the OKC investigations,
Attorney General Palmer was forced to admit before Congress that at least one 'especially active recruiter' for the Communist Party in Buffalo, New York, was in fact a "special agent of the Bureau of Investigation." Federal Judge George W. Anderson later declared that "What does appear, beyond reasonable doubt, is that the Government owns and operates some part of the Communist Party." --Shiny New Red Menace
Over the years, we've found a sort of balance between protecting ourselves from subversion and civil rights. I think the ACLU contributed to that dialog. It's just that they stepped on a lot of American toes in the process.
Recently someone posted some old "goals" of the communists...
I've tried and tried to track down the true origins of those goals, and I can't find them. Without a clear record of who acquired them and how, I have to say that they must have been made up for the convenience of the anti-communists. Cleon Skousen doesn't say, as far as I know (although I haven't read the book). If that's the case, then they're interesting, but still propaganda, even if much of them are true.
The question will come up again: if we are constantly at war with outside efforts to subvert our society, can we ever have a true set of civil rights. I think the answer is "probably not 100% freedom." On that basis, I'm in favor of the Patriot1 Act, but adamant that it should have sunset clauses. The Patriot2 Act sounds a bit too totalitarian for me. And I am suspicious of anyone who asks for the clauses.

I think the delay would almost doom Arnold because his viability seems almost totally dependent on insulating him from having to give answers to hard questions. To handle a five month slowdown either he gets stuck with the questions (the image that occurs to me is an exotic beetle stuck with a pin in an insect collection box) or he has to go to Brazil for a few months, suddenly, to film a new movie (Predator II?).
Either way, Tom fills the vacuum. Actually, Tom might even get some free publicity for his hang-tough stand, sympathy vote support, and turn it entirely around (maybe he can go to driver's ed comedy workshop and take a few standup comedy lessons in preparation for his appearances on Oprah or Leno in the interim ;-).
A long term continuation of budget impasse would also help underscore the need for an expert in contrast to a novice in the governor's office.
Short of any of the above, the delay might still force the pooling of resources between the Schwarzenegger and McClintock camps when they have so much time to sit down and consider the alternatives rationally.

I know you haven't been a disrupter - your screen name is very apt. If you do start a daily Arnold thread I believe many Tom supporters would assist you in keeping in rant free. I know Arnold supporters have done the same for the Tom daily thread. I hope you consider starting one.
The good Dr. Z has done an excellent job keeping the general recall thread going - I don't know how he does it - I can barely keep up with the Tom articles.

Darn! Oops! You're right. Next Wednesday night.
Well, I guess I can either watch a rerun of the Oprah Arnold show clips and/or the DEmRats Iowa Steak Rally from last weekend on Cspan and throw nerf footballs at the TV 'til then. Thanks. ;-)
