This raises the question of how the moa cocks were able to mate with their huge hens.,/i> They didn't. That's why they're gone. Mystery solved.

Never mind how the birds 'did' it. If they've got the DNA they can CLONE it. Drumsticks the size of Cinncinati!
Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. Moa!

A study of the fossilised bones of a giant bird which died out about 800 years ago has revealed that the female was three times the size of the male. Oh no you don't.
This is a research project right?
To see how many clever quips you can collect with that bait?
Nice try.

Yes, they were killed off by a meteor swarm in 1178AD. Cute, but the reality is more grim.
The males all lost their ladders.

Bird - feathers, beak, walks on two legs.
Dog - hair everywhere except on belly, many known to drool,
walks on all fours but can sit or stand if there is food involved.

the female was three times the size of the male. That's as far as I'm reading.

,,, the Maoris killed off the moas and the Morioris. If comets or meteorites hit moas, they would have wiped everything else out as well. We've still got tuataras and a wonderful range of native birds so the meteors must have had enough intelligence to isolate moas as targets. Had the Maoris been smart enough to breed the moas in captivity, well, we'd be up on the deal now. They weren't, the white settlers showed up and built museums to house moa bones in. The Maoris were engaged in inter-tribal slaughters and cannibalism even up to less than 200 years ago.

The fact that they died out 800+ years ago might explain something.
Otherwise, perhaps they ran out of rocks to pile up?

A friend of mine who lived in New Orleans had a female St. Bernard dog. Big dog... She came into heat which of course attracted local male dogs.
My friend found his female St. Bernard laying on her back in his back yard so that the small dog from across the street could do his thing on her. Missionary position so to speak, instead of "doggy" style.
A true story...

,,, thanx for that link in post#37. If you can get hold of a book called "Kiwis at the crossroads" by Geoff McDonald, it enlarges on how the Maori cause is being used to cause racial problems in New Zealand.

This raises the question of how the moa cocks were able to mate with their huge hens.
I think the question can be answered by the little wimpy men who always date and marry huge fat women. Go ask them.....or better yet, watch them and they will learn the secret!!!!!!!
