Those who counsel inaction will always have the edge in an argument, because the course not taken is never tested.

Unfortunately it hasn't been 'tested' for going on 90 years. This nation has hopped from one war to another it seems. One or two may have been for true necessary defense, but all were created from the actions taken first by Wilson on his high horse, the first 'spreader of democracy'

So what does one do? Truly if this nation of states had not involved itself in the European colonial wars of the early 20th century, much of what is now history would probably not have occurred. But to fix it? Does anyone believe that anymore than a respite from war could ever happen again considering the path this nation of states continues to go down? First it was facism, then communism, now terrorism. What's next?

However messy, finish the mission. The mission Bush sent them on. It's not something I would want but at least give the Iraqi people a chance. Capture Hussein, give it another few months on WMDs (at least time to give whoever the ability to admit they weren't there in the first place IMO), and set them up with power, food, etc. Then leave. Without establishing a western form of government that will not fly over there. There is only one, maybe two, Islamic nations that are democracies and one of those (Turkey) can place its limited success on its proximity to Europe (which the Iraqis do not have)

If the UN wants to handle it, let them. If they want a democracy, get that council to set it up. Secondly, and more important, put the advisors of this President, the PNAC lackeys, out of power so this will not happen again. Keep the promise to defend Israel as it always has been, or at least used to be before this 'road map', and let the rest of the Middle East go about its business.

I do not believe that I am talking about starving children and making my childrens grandparents eat dog food. Corporate welfare is a major problem. However, our constitution states that the government must protect it's people, ie defense spending. It does not state that our "poor" should be subsidized to the extent that they are,ie multiple TV's, cars, high speed internet, designer clothing.

There are numerous voting blocks that are stroked here. Both the "poor" and corporations get their share.
