WW2 ended Sep 45. VE Day was in May, VJ day was in Sep. Just a basic fact.

An oversight from my side, you are absolutely correct. I had the surrender of Germany in May 1945 in my mind when I wrote the article and I should have used Spetember 1945 as the end of WW II. Thank you for correcting me.

The defense budget this year was something over 400 billion. It was about 280 billion during the worst of the Clinton years.

The CIA worldfact book is showing 276 billions dollars so I took a very conservative approach in my article. If we have it over 400 billion dollars this year it will be even a further evidence of our supreme military power over anyone else in the world and we will be 3.5 times the size of the combined military budget of France, Germany and Russia. great news my friend and why we should even ask France, Germany or Russia to contribute any troops and give us more headache then doing anything substantial in Iraq. We do not need them.

But only partially correct, I'm afraid. V-J day is August 14 or 15, depending on whom you ask - Truman's announcement of the Japanese surrender came on the 14th, but the actual surrender was affected the 15th. American forces formally accepted the surrender of Japan in a ceremony in Tokyo Bay on 02 September 1945. A cool webpage, with contemporary radio clips, is here:

Radio Days - VJ Day

An amendment, that escaped my correction to the correction - the official V-J Day was declared by President Truman as 02 September. Ask anyone who was there, though, and they say 15 August.

When was VT (Victory of Terrorism) Day? Until that happens, any comparison to WWII manpower and budgets is meaningless.

If today's 'Rats would have been in charge during WWII, we'd be part of the 3rd Reich and there would be no Jews on the planet.

Are you suggesting that Iraq was an illegitimate war? Was Somalia a legitimate war/target? Where do you place Afghanistan? Clarify and thanks.

I wonder what the figures would look like if you figured in $100 hammers and $500 toilet seats or whatever the defense contractors overcharge the government these days.

And for as little as 280 billion, Clinton bought us missile technology for China, who shared it with Korea, who shared it with Iran.
He was also nice enough to run from terrorists, long enough to ensure 9/11. Thank goodness he spent the money well, aye? :-P

Honestly. What the heck were we doing in Yugoslavia, anyway? The regime change there had nothing to do with national security!

Good points which the naysayers fail to acknowledge.

320 is the total deaths, right? Including the ones who shoot themselves in their own sleeping bags and accidents in general, not just those killed in combat? I think the actual combat deaths is 70-something for Iraq and Afghanistan is less.
