I remember belonging to PFAW when I was 15 and 16, but that was when the group's Big Issue was opposing censorship, particularly of library books like "The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn" in public schools and public libraries.
Even before I got out of high school, the group showed signs of morphing into an omnibus liberal group.
Sort of like how MoveOn.org started out as a group dedicated exclusively to Clinton's impeachment -- the group's name derives from the view that, instead of impeaching Clinton, Congress should "censure and move on" -- but since has morphed into Whatever's Liberal.

"People for the American Way" is an oxymoron. Those people are for anyhitng BUT the American Way.
PFTAW =
The
Powerful Against the American Way.
It's limosine liberals exploiting those willing to be patronized as "poor" to gain power to lord it over those who are unwilling to be patronized as "poor"--and undesirous of patronizing anyone else.

PAW is limosine liberals exploiting those willing to be patronized as "poor" to gain power to lord it over we-the-people. We-the-people love the written Constitution and, even if each of us could think of a desirable amendment, hold to its provisions as the best practially available standard for "secur[ing] the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity." We are, simultaneously, unwilling to be patronized as "poor" and unwilling to patronize anyone else. We're the moderates!
