Here is a discussion about what Kinsley wrote and what he really thought on the matter (they are looking at an old, semi-sarcastic article of his)

Looking at it more carefully, I can't even be sure what Kinsley's position was. Whether he was disgusted or not with Clinton's behavior, though, he supported Clinton during the impeachment (at least, I think so), so it's sort of a moot point of whether it bothered him personally, if he was still willing to back Clinton publicly.

I should also apologize for that last post, it was not very good. Just saying something is untrue without linking to any evidence is not helpful or constructive.

Arnold didn't begin to learn English until he was 28 years of age. This interview took place when he was 29.

I doubt he even remembers the interview to say nothing of what he actually said, or was prompted to say, or what he said "yes" to when the interviewer came up with it.

Anyone who has ever worked with a non-English speaking person so that they can learn passable English understands the phenomenon quite well.

Anyone who believes the "OUI" story must believe that Arnold is a supergenius of some kind who can learn a new langauge fluently in just a few months.

Remember, this guy was at the bottom of the heap in Austria. He was not on the university track ~ rather, he was on the "gonna' be a hillbilly farmer" track!

In fact, McClintock on TV pointed out the other day that Arnold, apparently under Wilson's tutelage, is saying EXACTLY what Wilson said in his 1990 campaing - that he'd raise taxes only in "an emergency", and then he got elected and proceeded to raise taxes hugely. Higher taxes await Califonrians if the Arnold/Buffett/Wilson team wins.

Once again, I wish McClintock and his followers would spend just half the energy they expend bashing Arnold on bashing Davis and Bustamante. It is really, really sad that "conservatives" cannot bring themselves to denounce the anti-American socialists in this field instead of using their ammunition in internecine warfare.

the fact that Schwarzenegger bragged about this episode in a published interview makes the question of whether it really happened almost irrelevant.

Oh please. So Arnold told a lewd story in the mid 1970's as part of an immature and misguided attempt to make himself look "cool." Now your saying that this should disqualify him from being governor, even if it was entirely made up by Arnold at the time?!?

Seriously, I can understand the outrage if somebody credible came forth against him like they did with Clinton and presented a believable story that, for example, he raped or fondled them. But simply telling a crude and likely made up story? Yeah, it was in bad taste. But pushing this as a campaign issue now is no different than the Anita Hill hatchett job on Clarence Thomas for supposedly telling dirty jokes.

The irony here is that the so-called "conservatives" who are Arnold sycophants loudly deny that the story is disgusting

There's no need to deny that its a disgusting story because it is just that. The dirty jokes that were alleged of Clarence Thomas were also in bad taste. But should they discredit somebody from holding office a quarter-century after the fact? That's just plain silly.

If you have a legitimate gripe against Arnold, make your case. If you can find a legitimate and credible account of him doing something wrong to women or anybody else for that matter, make your case. But making an issue of this is the kind of tabloid trash that one would expect from the Democrats.

Your point can be turned around - - where are the conservatives who had a problem with Clinton, even with his antics as far back as the 70s?

Clinton's antics as far back as the 70's involved several credible and identified accounts of extramarital affairs, sexual harassment, and at least one rape. To date all you've shown for Arnold is him telling a single lewd story 30 years ago that very likely never even happened. It's just plain silly to pursue. You might as well be attacking adults today for telling dirty jokes when they were in high school.

Kinsley of course is a BIG FAT HYPOCRITE.

Show me his column explaining how Barney Frank is unfit for office because he got his homosexual whore room-mate off on parking tickets in DC, and engaged and abided worse behavior vis a vis perversion, etc. ... or for that matter there was and is worse perversion (including leaving a wife and kids for a gay lover) now tolerated in a *bishop* in the Episcopalian Church. I am sure Arnie could get a gig as a Pastor at a church and pass moral muster better than some of those homosexuals in priestly garb.

The idea that Clinton ever felt shame about his perjury or other acts of adultery and harrassment is laughable. He sure never expressed it.

So this comes down to the usual attempt to hold Republicans to a higher standard than it seems now anyone else in our culture (actors, pastors, Democrat Presidents)? I'm willing to let Cali voters make the call on that.

I am a bonafide CLINTON-HATER. I have been sick to my stomach since the "Lying, Bastard, S O B" won the Democrat nomination.

I vehemently disagree with you that the First Felon has EVER been ashamed of ANYTHING since age eight and a half.

Don't you remenber "Eye wont ewe tuh lissen ta me... I did knot.. have.. seck-shule.. ruh-lay-shuns.. with-that-woman...." (while shaking his stinky finger at the entire world????!!!!???

But hey, .. I could be wrong.

Chapter and verse, please Sir.

What's disgusting is that Michael Kinsley can make a living "judging" people. While Arnold was leading this "disgusting" life Kinsley was probably hiding in his bedroom whacking off.

Clinton is ashamed of what he has done.

That is a impossibility. The Clinton's do not have the mental capacity to feel the emotion of shame.

If may pretend to be ashamed if only to make political points with the media and their Kool-Aid drinkers sycophants.
