sounds like this guy wanted to wind up on TV

That part I doubt. If it was NY or LA I might buy it, but not in Erie. The bomb had a set timer that went off less than an hour after the bank robbery. In a media center, one could expect to have a camera crew on spot pretty quick, but Erie? Now if an amateur camcorder type thing was good enough, maybe. But this whole thing is so wierd, who knows.

We also know the planners of this plot have some level of explosive and weapon design training and experience, and previous usage of this type of device comes to us from a group of terrorists in Columbia.

I would doubt the planners of this are amateurs. The fact that our police haven't solved it by now would make you suspect it's a fairly sophisticated group behind it.

So...what is the only thing the police really claim to know for sure??? Not terrorism...

I heard yesterday evening, a blurb about the explosive used was "rarely" found in the US. This was a local report, so take it for what it's worth. Blackbird.

Sounds like the device used in the movie "deadlock" with Rutger Hauer. An eighties film that featured a new style of prison without walls and limited guards. The security was provided by the inmates in prison. If either prisoner left a marked perimeter or tampered with their collar, both collars would explode killing the prisoners. This kept the prisoners watching after their assigned partners. Interesting concept.

That's exactly what I thought of when I first read this story. I wonder if it looked anything like this:

In two other popular Rutger Hauer films the actor played a blind swordsman man who wielded his weapon which was disguised as a walking stick against the forces of evil.

BTW: The other films are Blind Fury 1 & 2. I am sure you have caught them on cable if you have penchant for action flicks.

Curiously the movie was also released under the title Wedlock.

The cane-like weapon wielded by Rutger Hauer in Blind Fury 1 & 2.

In the movie it's a sword not a gun.

Much better. For us who are dead tired due to lack of sleep proper punctuation helps.

The authorities told us that the Tampa Teen kamikaze pilot was not a terrorist yet he referred to the acts as terrorist acts in the letter (the word terrorist was crossed out by someone; maybe not him because it occurs in the first line of the letter, better just to start over at that point).

The Tampa teen also pledged support to Osama bin Laden, said that he had been approached by al Qaeda but refused to join, and made bomb threat against the Super Bowl. The letter was withheld from the public until after the Super Bowl and the crowd was never alerted to the threat that had been made.

"He had the innocence of a child,'' neighbor Jeffrey Harpst said. "He was too shy and timid for something like this. I think it was people too chicken to do it themselves, so they had to use a poor scapegoat to do it for them." Also unless this neighbor isn't paying attention, Jeffrey Dahmer was a shy quiet guy that kept to himself, so were/are a great number sociopaths. So we have a shy quiet guy not working very much (27 hrs a week.. you know the saying about Idle hands and all) seeming overtly innocent, with mechanical abilities evidenced by him working on his car a lot. Money didn't seem that important to him say the neighbors, and he was delivering pizzas which really isn't going to make you any $. He's renting a cottage that's got to be around $475+ a month. @ $6-7 per hour plus tips of say $ 20- 25 a night comes to monthly income of roughly $800 after taxes. After rent leaves about $325 food $110 a mnth now were at $215 minus phn, elec say $80 a mnth now about $135 left minus gas for his car, parts for his car, which he was "always" working on, and food for the 3 cats. How long can a grown man last on this income? The weapon they found couldn't have been left by a "kidnapper" why in the world would he/she/him/they leave that in his car? So it was his for his own protection maybe, but it was fabricated by hand by someone with skills. In conclusion he was not a victim, and I wouldn't be surprised if he had robbed a bank before, and almost got caught. So he tells himself that's not going to happen again, and comes up this new plan. As far as the co-worker goes.. Who answered the phone at the pizzeria? Was this co-worker at work when this call came in? I don't know this is weird story which I've wasted a lot of time on. Or maybe it went down like this ...Co-worker has drug problem.. Co-worker needs money for habit, co-worker gets great idea. Calls for delivery and puts bomb around his co-workers neck (which would explain why the "Weapon" wasn't used because "victim" was familiar with co-worker and didn't feel threatened until it was too late)"victim" blows up co-worker thinks he's going to get busted so he gets real high and dies. Next case please.

My point exactly. Anything is possible, and when neighbors and friends say, 'oh he's so nice, etc.', that should be a tip off right away.
