what is the advantage of going with your suggestion You'd be wise instead of foolish?
But hell, I guess laissez faire leads to waste - despite what Smith says.

Here's one in white - ohhh... another reason why you would be foolish not to go with quality over initial capital cost:
Forever Bright LED Lights
Light Emitting Diode (LED) Electricity Savings
Forever Bright lights achieve high brightness with only a small fraction of energy. Instead of consuming about 350 Watts per string of 70 light conventional 5 watt light set, Forever Bright lights use only a few Watts of power (3.6 watts). The 90% to 99% savings in electricity quickly adds up. Each string can save dollars per month, as the following chart shows:
Power Usage
35 light set - uses 1.8 watts
50 light set - uses 1.8 watts
70 light set - uses 3.6 watts
100 light set - uses 3.6 watts
Not to mention the non-existent fire risk...

Well, that being the case I guess we should hand over the economy to Pat and his brigadeers. Karl Marx will be our messiah and we can finally heard all those icky foreigners into concentration camps for looking and smelling funny. Then we can go around chanting our mantras about the glorious middle class lifestyle in which the only thing we can afford is Pat's newest book (since it will be subsidized to make sure no foreigners can steal American publishing jobs) about how we are all doomed unless we can find another way to turn back the clock to the 1950's where money grew on trees and children never talked back to their parents.

You said that Walmart's customers don't typically shop at Saks or Barney's.
No they don't, but I'll bet if you go to Saks and Barney's you will see that much of their products are also made outside the US.I bought a fairly expensive cotten shirt at Talbot's last week and it was made in Indonesia.

Don't you suppose that if an American manufacturer were making a comparable cotton shirt at a comparable shirt, Talbots would have carried it? Don't you suppose that if an American manufacturer made comparable plastic shower curtains for $3, Walmart or Dollar General would carry it?

"You said that Walmart's customers don't typically shop at Saks or Barney's." Actually, my wife shops at WALMART and NORDSTROM, COACH, SAKS (in Hawaii), MACY's(ditto), and about 50 other places.
Shopping is her hobby. Mine is football, but de gustibus, right?
I may look into those LED lights, though- but not this year- I bought 20 sets of lights on sale last year!!

Who would want a set of lights to last for twenty years? I don't. I like a change every couple of years, myself. Therefore the cheap lights work just fine for me.
The same with my toaster and appliances. I don't want them to last twenty years. I want to buy NEW ones with all the added features when the old one goes kerplunck.
Gone are the days when our grandparents bought a bedroom suite on their honeymoon and still had it on their 50th anniversery.

It won't be long before the $6000 for Indian labor will become inconvenient for manufacturers too. I guess $.09/hr is alright if you don't mind living like a pygmy in a country ran by pygmies with a pygmy government with pygmy laws for a pygmy society. Slavery inhibits progress. There was a reason we abolished slavery in the US and its no accident that it was abolished as we were approaching the peak of the industrial age. This preceded a period of scientific advances never seen before in history that greatly improved the quality of life for us. The race to the bottom is a race back to the stoneage.
