The problem will of course be seeing that the money goes where it supposed to.

Your comments are on the mark, of course. It was fun calling him a buffoon though. I don't believe he is as brilliant as all think he is. When you have the money he does (and it doesn't take brilliance to succeed in the market), investment "wisdom" becomes self-fulfilling prophecy at a point. You can afford to wait. Investors follow your moves, driving up the price of your holdings, etc. Inside information is a certainty.

If he was brilliant, he wouldn't believe taxing the hell out of people makes sense. Perhaps I'm confusting brilliance with with decency. But I think the two go hand-in-hand. I think he is probably evil. Only evil people believe it is ok to confiscate wealth created by others to serve ends that may not be consistent with the goals of those who worked to finance those ends.

A better question would be why Drudge delinked FR and refuses relink to this day. Drudge originally said he felt we were competition...but he links to Lucianne. Too many FReepers drool over Drudge while he spits on us.

Agreed. He seems to only be into stuff that will drive vistitors to his site. His "world exclusives" are just stories about stories. I used to like his site, but knowing that someone here on FR will post anything interesting, I don't even go there anymore. He is just a propogandist out for the quick spike in hits so he can charge more for his advertising.

The age of them is telling, most were made when he was in his mid-20's, at a point he had no reason to ever dream he would be under scrutiny for them, and not enough sense to keep his mouth shut for prudence's sake.

I wouldn't be surprised if he (at that time, or now) had some racist or anti-semitic views; they aren't illegal, after all, and are probably fairly common to at least some extent in most people, white, black, jewish, whatever. Being from Austria, it is hard to imagine he having been indoctrinated in racial sensitivity from childhood. Additionally, anyone with half a brain could have argued that turning SAfrica over to tribal mix-n-match government would result in exactly what he said.

I don't agree with a lot of his views, and don't care for some of what I have read (hearsy) about his personality, BUT the guy is self-made, and a winner at most of what he does. That is FAR more than can be said for our political class as a whole. If he is elected, and at times publicly disagrees with War President Bush, it is going to get a lot of time on TV. He could become the second most-recognized (and possibly the most 'believed') politician overnight. This is something to consider, at the least.

I think you've pegged it. "being from Austria" makes Arnold eligible for all sorts of nazified racist accusations, (from both sides), and first on ABC's list should be, delving into Mr. Wayne's motives. Drudge reads as if Mr. Universe Wayne has had a long standing urge to out Arnold as a racist....why did he wait till now to do it? And..........how did ABC find Wayne....Did Wayne find them? And did Gray Davis' people make it happen?

This won't hurt Arnold..he's too clearly identified as a social liberal, has done too much inner city, low income work with minority kids, but it will be an ugly campaign.

You know, I've been thinking about this and I can't, for the life of me, understand those of you out to get Cruz Busta"meche" elected saying that Arnold is really a democrat. I mean, he's in a state which has a majority of democrats, wouldn't his path to public office be much quicker if he ran on the D ticket rather than the R ticket. There must be some reason he sees himself as a Republican. I think it is because he is something of a libertarian on tax and spending issues, OK, not exactly a libertarian but he does seem to be against raising taxes and raising spending. So far, I like what he has said on this front and I'm not going to sit around screaming for a "no new taxes" pledge. I think he has basically given us one. I'll wait until October 7th but if Arnold needs my vote to keep Bustamante out of office, he'll have it. He should have yours also. (FWIW, I'd happily vote for Senator McClintock under similar circumstance. Like most on FR, I am more ideologically tied to the Senator than I am to Arnold. We need some pragmatism here, though, don't we?)

I think he might be like Bill Gates. To him making money is all a game or an interesting, fulfilling, job.

He, like Bill Gates (or at least Bill Gates's father-- who is apparently Bill's public spokesman on these matters), seems to see life as a game played by one person, and when you die the stuff on the board gets put away.

They have the right to view life this way, but that is not how many of us view life. We see the fundamental unit of society to be the family. We work to build businesses, enlarge farm holdings or accrue other wealth precisely to make our family better off over a period exceeding our own short lifetime. The family does not die when we die, but continues, and its wealth should continue.

Koreans immmigrants and others who see the family as the fundamental unit of society do not come to this country and work 20 hour days building businesses for the fun of it. They do it to make their families batter off, from their immediate family to their extended family living in places all over the world.

The view of life and work as an interesting game that you play as individual should not be imposed on those of us who view the family as the fundamental unit of society.

I can understand why those who have no advantages from family might want to tear down what they see as dynastic family fortunes. What bothers me are the tycoons and the economists and social engineers who spout any number of reason for taking away family wealth upon death.

As a side note, the fact that some people who inherit family fortunes don't "produce economic output," is not grounds for the government to take wealth away from families. Frankly, a man who sits at home and spends money from his trust fund is preferable, in my view, to a man who as a "hard-working lawyer with a strong work ethic" files 25 lawsuits every day, 24 of which are nuisance suits. Many immoral or amoral men pride themselves on their strong "work ethic," which in their eyes makes them better than decent and honorable men who do not work as hard as they do. We would be better off as a society if many of the "hard working" amoral guys just stayed home and watched TV, but I am not about to use the law to impose my will on them about how they should live their life. I wish the social engineers would stop using the law to impose their will on me.
