but noted the 27 e-mails his office received "reflecting understandable concern for the well being" of Schindler-Schiavo.Considering the lack of coverage in the mainstream media, contrasted with the numerous threads here, I'd be willing to bet that at least 20 of those e-mails came from FReepers. God bless this site!

Well, I knew he would care, but I didn't know how much, if anything, he could actually do. :) Please don't think I am being disparaging of Jeb Bush. But I do know what a political adviser would tell Jeb. For every person that calls or emails or sends a letter there are 150 people who feel the same way, but don't call, mail or email.
If you take 27,000 emails and multiply it by 150 you find that 4,050,000 people think Jeb should do something. No politician I have ever known would ignore that. I doubt that Jeb wanted to ignore it. But if he did want to do something he wanted to do it with the greatest chance of success.
Jeb went to some effort to point out the fact he got 27,000 emails. Judges have to be elected too. And if they want to remain a judge they will take these 4 million people seriously. Jeb waited until talk radio was at his throat and the public arroused and then put the JUDGE on the hot seat with the burner turned up to high. I can tell you it burns that Judges very tender a$$ a lot.
The point that will not be missed by the judge is that if he kills this woman, he will never be appointed to a higher court. He will never be elected to a higher or even the same court. He won't even be invited to major events. The power strcuture will see the Jdge as a third rail legal killer. Legal killers don't get invited to homes or public event. The word political pariah comes to mind.
It will in effect cost the judge all his stature and a future if he rules the wrong way.
This move by Jeb Bush late in the game with huge public backing is hardball politics at its hardest. If I were Bush's political consultant it would have been my advise to handle it exactly this way. But I doubt that it took a political adviser thinking about the Governor to formulate this plan. The most likely scenario is the Governor asked everyone on his staff to tell him how to save this womans life?" He took the plan with the highest chance of success and he did it.
To kill this woman the judge will have to commit judicial suicide. That is the sentence Jeb just delivered on him. There is on ticked off judge tonight of that you can be sure.

re #11.
I heard most of that Schnitt interview.
I tried to give him the benefit of a doubt, since I am predisposed to side with the Schindlers, but I too, thought he sounded "creepy".
For the benefit of FReepers outside the area, it should be noted that Shiavo stated last Friday that he expected a ruling on Monday 8/25 at 3:00pm from the judge, and intended to have the feeding tube removed immediately that day.
Thank God Jeb did something. It doesnt look like it will amount to much, though.Perhaps if he had weighed in before the worthless denisens of the FL "supreme court" denied the appeal. Is there time for SCOTUS?
Strange how he could, if he chose, stay the execution of a convicted murderor on death row, but he has no power in this situation.

Judge Greer will not appoint a guardian ad litem. I have phone numbers from the phone book for the Clearwater Courthouse and all the guardianship phone numbers. He husband held a presser today and was very flippant about Jeb's letter and called the emailers a "bunch of right to lifers."
Hubby is looking a little nervous but with a pal like Judge Greer who is no Judge Moore, Terri has until the September 11 hearing to decide the date her starvation begins.
Here are the phone numbers: courthouse - 727-464-3000, guardianship numbers: 727-582-7563, 727-582-7771, and 727-464-8700. We can at least call as friends of Terri and voice our concerns.
Can someone find State AG Crist's phone number? That would be great. Maybe he can weigh in on this. He helped George keep his flag.

I think the (dis)honorable Judge Greer is lying through his teeth. 'I think' and 'I don't think' invalidate his statementAnd his use of 'frankly' twice in the same breath can mean only one thing: He is NOT being frank.
To: ovrtaxt
I know that Mr. Schiavo has tried to ban Terri's mother and family and priest from seeing her.
But, I don't know how a court could prevent doctors from ordering therapy, speach therapy (which is often actually swallowing therapy) and most especially oral nutrition.

Over 27K emails and additional phone calls today. The Judge denied Jeb's request and hubby remains the legal guardian. Hubby was nervous on tv today. He's the spectacle, not his wife.

As usual, Tator, you've described the political landscape perfectly.
Jeb waited until he could gain the maximum leverage (if, indeed, he has any leverage).
And, you're right about the judge. His judicial career has Peter-Principled out!

Judge won't budge. I provided phone numbers for the courthouse and all the guardianship phone numbers. Requesting someone provide for us Fla. AG Crist's phone number. He may be able to intervene. Please ping your friends.
Maybe we need to email Hannity, Savage, Limbaugh, Boortz, Glenn Beck, et al.
September 11 is decision day on when the starvation and withholding of fluid begins.
Judge Greer has been with the husband since day one. A guardian ad litem would have been fair for Terri and her parents. Her parents love her but they are treated as the enemy. I'm ashamed this is happening in Pinellas County.

Is there time for SCOTUS?I'm wondering that too.
Back in the '90s in the Nancy Cruzan 'right to die' case, SCOTUS ruled that there was NOT 'clear and convincing' evidence that Nancy Cruzan had expressed a wish that her life be terminated were she ever to fall into a 'vegetative' state.
SCOTUS's ruling temporarily halted the Cruzan family's crusade to starve Nancy to death.
However, somewhat later a couple of Nancy's ex-co-workers were conjured up to swear that Nancy had made such a declaration to them. The Missouri court accepted that as 'clear and convincing' evidence, and ordered Nancy's death.
So Nancy Cruzan had food and water withdrawn. It took eleven days for her to die.
A few years later her father, who had campaigned for her death, committed suicide.

Does AG Crist have more authority than Jeb?
I am asking, because I am ignorant regarding jurisdictions.

The husband holds creepy press conferences and looks like OJ or Scott Peterson. When he says stuff about Terri's wishes, it makes my skin crawl. How can hubby divine Terri's wishes? It is his wish and he's careful to not call it death. But, death it is and we can't start killing people because they aren't like us. She is not in a coma and is not a vegetable. She needs to see her parents. They need to be with her! I provided phone numbers for the courthouse and guardianship departments earlier on this thread.

Common Tator, Thanks for your informative, straightforward post. You may be absolutely correct in everything you say, especially above.
However, I would like to politely point out I did not see it that way at all, and here's why: The matter was in the hands of the court, right up to late Friday afternoon.
Consequently, Gov Bush HAD to wait until the court made a decision. The court decided not to intervene late Friday. Saturday, Sunday, Monday, went by - and today, Tuesday, Gov Bush has made public the fact he has issued this letter to the judge.
In all honesty, I don't think Gov Bush could have moved any faster than he did, even though it may have seemed he was moving quite slow. Had he intervened any sooner, shouts of interference with the judicial process would have accompanied any move he made.
But, once the decision was rendered by the court, it made sense to me that he would then perhaps speak - and, he did.

Crist is the chief law enforcement office of the state of Florida. He's from Pinellas County. CC stepped in & helped George Andres keep his American Flag even though the homeowner's association tried to foreclose on him. (george is a freeper).
Charlie Crist is big on prosecuting fraud and abuse. If this isn't abuse, I don't know what is. I found the courthouse phone numbers and I bet CC's toll line is on the internet. I am running out of energy today. I hope somebody can research for AG Crist's phone number. Thanks in advance.

I did too much yardwork yesterday and am exhausted today. If you do a google for Pinellas County FL Clerk of Courts, I just bet you'll find email addresses. They've had a web site for about five years. Even a "main" email address will get to the right person if the subject line is in detail re: Judge Greer - Terri Schiavo Guardianship. If you find email addresses, please post them for out of staters. Thanks. FV
