I still say that, after all these years, their best number is still "I'm Down"; I forget which album it's from.
To: ejdrapes
I know they broke ground in their early days, but I can't listen to anything earlier than Sgt. Pepper. It's painful.

"I'm Down" was the flip side of "Help" and was never on an album until it was put on a compilation well after the Beatles had broken up.

About once a year, I play all of the Beatles albums in chronological order.

40 YEARS!!????
Damn, am I feelin old! LOL!
One of the memorable Christmas presents I received was the "Meet the Beatles" album and their second one which I can't recall right now. Played them on an old Silvertone turntable[Sears BEST!]with a needle as big as a ball point pen tip. And played them over and over and over.
I still have those albums.
::sigh::

A good use of time, in my opinion. Here's an upsetting comparison -- today stands in relation to the release of "She Loves You" as that day was to 1923 -- 40 years in either direction. Talk about "When I'm 64."

My fiancee and I just watched a Beatles dvd of hers "Fun With The Beatles" which was mostly their early interviews for the press with a few musical moments thrown in. The annoyance of Lennon with reporters stupid questions is hilarious. One really stupid reporter asked the Beatles if their "long hair" caused them problems when they tried to sleep. Lennon in particular had a hard time trying to keep his irritation controlled.

The Beatles had throw-away album cuts that could have been fine singles in their own right if they weren't so overshadowed by the monster hits. So many under-rated songs -- "No Reply" or "I'll Be Back" or "In My Life" or "You're Gonna Lose That Girl" or "If I Needed Someone" or any of hundreds of others. Amazing. The difficult task is coming up with really bad Beatles songs. It can be done, but they are a minority.

What a killer song. 2'18" - sounds like the length of a Ramones song. I always knew the Beatles were punk rock!

What are your candiates for the bad ones? I never cared for Maxwell's Silver Hammer. And anything with Yoko Ono's silver touch: John Lenon came up with some odd stuff, late. Even Revolution #9 had some interesting stuff in it, especially during the height of the "Paul is dead." mini-mania.

"Everywhere I Go"
This Tribute to the Fab 4 was written in 1973......I am very sad to be posting today, in memory of a fallen Beatle, and a piece of our youth and invincibility ...Rest In Peace, good friend....the band is halfway home...
Talk about the English Channel, and limousines.
Talk about the Liverpool shuffle, well I tell you what it means:
It means over, and over, and over, and over, everywhere I go.
Under ground, over ground, deep inside all the people I know,
(don't you know that it's so)....
They're everywhere I go.
Talk about a teenage idol, holding the world.
Talk about the liberation, of all the boys and girls
Well over, and over, and over, and over, everywhere I go.
Under ground, over ground, deep inside all the people I know,
(don't you know that it's so)....
They're everywhere you go.
Hearing stories 'bout how it's gonna be in the big time.....
Runnin' 'round with all those pretty women,
and playin' Shea will be fine,
making money all the time....
Playin' here, playin' there even Ed has brought them here for the tube
Everyday every way on the radio the hits comin' through
Talk about the many things, that you think you have planned
Talk about your flowing hair, to the rings on your hand
Well over, and over, and over, and over, everywhere I go.
Under ground, over ground, deep inside all the places I know,
(don't you know that it's so)....
They're everywhere you go.
Well over, and over, and over, and yes, everywhere you go.
Under ground, over ground deep inside all the people you know,
(don't you know that it's so)....
They're everywhere you go.
They're everywhere I go.......

The difficult task is coming up with really bad Beatles songs. It can be done, but they are a minority. I agree there's not many bad ones, but I've got a couple for you: 'Don't Bother Me' & 'Another Girl'. 'Another Girl' has to be the worst Beatles song ever!

I consider the White Album the greatest LP ever, but to this day I skip "Bungalow Bill" EVERY TIME.
And I love "Revolution #9". The way it's bookended by "Cry Baby Cry" (and that haunting snippet of "Can you take me back where I've been from...") and the absolutely beautiful "Goodnight"... I can't imagine the LP without it.
Listening to the White Album is like going through a beautiful art gallery... one picture is a small pastoral landscape, then an huge abstract expressionist piece, then a lush Pre-Raphaelite work, etc.
