Work should not be an option. This lazy clown can just get himself a cardboard box and live out of it if he thinks the world owes him a living.
So's working and and having a large portion of my income confiscated to support deadbeats like the whiners in this article, all so that a bunch of socialists in Congress can brag about how compassionate they are with my money.
Actually, in my opinion you're both right.
However, I come down more on the side of upcountryhorseman. The ugly truth is that it is involuntary servitude, and its wrong. The solution is not to force them to work, it is to stop providing them with the means to survive if they refuse to work.
Those incapable of working to support themselves should be supported either by private charities or their own friends and/or families.
Their need to survive does not give them the right to make me their slave any more than I have the right to force them to work for me. Would I be allowed to force them, or anyone else, at the point of a gun, to give me some of their blood for a transfusion if not getting that blood would result in my death?
