From the article: McClintock...is running on a platform focusing on three specific issues he vows to deal with on his first day in office: rescinding Davis' tripling of the state car tax by executive order, voiding $42 billion in overpriced state electricity contracts , and calling for a special legislative session to slash worker's compensation costs by two-thirds and reverse the flow of jobs to other states.

I'm totally skeptical of McClintock's plan to void the long term energy contracts. He bases this claim on a law suit that cites a [indirect] conflict of interest on the part one of Grey-out's consultants, hired to negotiate with the energy companies. This plan to void the contracts is a long shot based on the tenuous application of California state law by the courts. Frankly, I'm surprised he's been able to get away with that sort of rhetoric on what is inarguably the core issue of the recall.

" I'm one of the ones pulling for Schwarzenegger "
--

I know -- my comments weren't directed at you, it was more a general comment about there is always a hindsight explanation, but never a winning strategy among the Republicans.

As I said about a million times before, if McClitock had a chance, I may vote for him myself, but this is not "which Republican candidate do we like most", it's about which Republican candidate can beat Bustamante, who already announced he is seeking $8B tax increase.

Oh, I think McClintock has a chance, but he's rather like a skilled baseball team that's down 7-2 with only 3 more innings of at-bats: He could win, but it will take a combination of (1) a very strong effort on his part, probably plus (2) a collapse by opponents. Key is where things stand just before the election. I know you WILL vote for McClintock if Arnold for some reason has collapsed and McClintock is the top GOP man.

As a friend of mine once said: 'One day we'll all look back on this, chuckle nervously and change the subject'. ;-)

Brilliantly apt! It's a date then ;-)

If the same candidates were running for Governor of Texas, I believe most of we allegedly 'star-struck' Arnold supporters would be supporting McClintock.

The three L's... location, location, location ;-)

2002: Arnold, Buffett meet with Rothschilds, other elites

Reuters, Sept. 24, 2002: WADDESDON MANOR, England (Reuters) - The world's second-richest man dropped into the English countryside with the Terminator at his side on Monday, a day after warning the UK's corporate big game his elephant gun was loaded.

Billionaire Warren Buffett and mean machine Arnold Schwarzenegger touched down by helicopter on the immaculate lawns of Waddesdon manor, a Renaissance-style chateau in the undulating hills of Buckinghamshire.

Buffett, 72, is guest of honor at a closed two-day meeting of some of the world's most powerful businessmen and financiers -- the ultimate networking opportunity.

The get-together in the ancestral home of the Rothschild banking family will discuss economic and political issues Among those invited to Waddesdon Manor were the likes of James Wolfensohn, president of the World Bank, Jorma Ollila, chief executive of Nokia and De Beers chairman Nicky Oppenheimer.

A group of photographers captured the moment when Buffett and Schwarzenegger, resplendent in steel-tipped cowboy boots, stepped onto Waddesdon's freshly cut lawn to be greeted by Lord Jacob Rothschild. . .

If arnold's platforms are good, perhaps I agree.
But during the last week of "advisor" Buffet "advising" that property and general taxes should go higher, and announcing new "team member" democrat ROB LOWE, most conservatives have started to get the impression that Arnold is liberal in not just social areas, but fiscal areas as well. I have gone from - ok, to NOT ok. But we will see. However, when he makes his announcements regarding his platform, after the democrat "help" he has gathered together - WHY would you trust him?

"Good to see a reversal in the F.R. Poll."

Any person that thinks a poll on FR has any relationship to the outcome of any election (or of general public opinion) is living in a fantasy world.

What is McClintock doing today, to become better known by ALL of California's voters? Tomorrow? The next day? The day after that?

I actually think he could win. But it will take a superior campaign, of which I've seen no evidence of, from any of the three major Republican candidates.

How long did it take you to figure that out?

True, it has zero bearing on the outcome of the election, but does it reflect the views of a true cross section of FReepers? In other words, except for the random noise of disruptors, does the straw poll on FR give an indication as to which way FReepers will (would?) vote? (Assuming they live in California)?

Just curious. I'm a Arnold supporter, and I believe the straw poll has some valididity even though he's currently running second. He'll be back! (said in my deepest Austrian voice)

Nonetheless, it was really no surprise that Schwarzenegger, who supported Riordan for governor last year, did not show up at the Burbank Hilton in response to Spence's invitation. Simon and state Sen. Tom McClintock, the two other major Republicans in the recall election, did address the CRA convention, however. Both are conservatives. But this time, the 47-year-old McClintock captured the group's endorsement on a voice vote. Simon's deputy campaign manager Steve Frank downplayed the significance of the endorsement. "Tom has been active in CRA for 20 years," he said, "and Bill has been active only since he got into politics and started running for governor two years ago."

Grassroots Conservatives want McClintock. All Simon has going for him is his money.

Sadly the main effect is splintering the Conservative vote. Simon should withdraw IMHO.

How do you win if your candidate doesn't have high crossover appeal?"

Turnout.

No one seems to think this election will be lower in turnout. But I have yet to see any stories about how registrations are going through the roof in election offices. I think a lot of folks who aren't registered and won't be registered are worked up about this Arnold thing. And a SINGLE strong grass-roots conservative could win this with a plurality--contrary to what others might think--with low turnout and a strong get-out-the-vote program.

I am one of those who'd prefer a conservative across the board, because I don't trust so-called 'socially liberal' Republicans to be 'fiscally conservative.' But I'd vote for Arnold if in polls just before the election he was the top Republican (assuming the Rat was second--if a conservative looks to be in second, in this election, all bets are off).

I'll eagerly look forward to the platform he comes up with being specific enough to keep conservatives in his corner.

this is not "which Republican candidate do we like most", it's about which Republican candidate can beat Bustamante

And for some it's about which candidate espouses at least a few conservative principles. I haven't seen them from Arnold.

If he states right out in the open his disgust for Republicans impeaching Bill Clinton (which as we recall was for obstruction of justice, abuse of power, lying under oath), then

it can be reasoned

that Schwarzenegger himself would have no aversion to any of these immoralities by high public officials once HE himself was in a situation of power.

We don't need leaders like this. To hell with them!!!!!! Schwarzenegger is a product of RINOs, Hollywood, the liberal media and moderate/liberals. We don't need to inherent, let alone push, this defective bill of goods.
