Dear C: Like you I kept waiting to see what party she belonged to. After a couple of paragraphs without mention of party affiliation, you figure out she a democrat. Maybe it's just me, but it seems that if a politician is in some kind of trouble and the subject of the article is a Repub the party is mentioned early and frequently, but if the miscreant is a Dem, it may not be mentioned at all or only in passing at the end of the story in some oblique way. I now assume that if the party is not mentioned in an expose of a politician, it's a Dem.

Shortly after midnight on March 21, congressional aides tried to coax Rep. Karen McCarthy toward a government parking garage. Note how the opening of the story is apparantly constructed to imply that McCarthy is a Republican, and she isn't really acknowledged to be a democrat until about 2/3 of the way through the story. This is the same treatment they gave Gary Condit, who was almost always identified as Rep. Gary Condit, without the requisite (D-California) tag.
