Thanks for using the updated plan.

Clearly I have been touting versions of this plan for over a month now. We have hammered out some language we hope a lot of people can get behind and from the reactions I get from Freep mail it seems we are getting more and more aboard.

I do not have any "vested interest" in any of this except as an american who wants to see America have a healthy thriving economy and not be subject to military threats from various totalitarians on this planet

If anything this may cost me money if implemented but because it is sound economic policy and I can adapt as long as I am breathing I am for this and heartily echo your sentiments about it is time to get to work. I have e-mailed the White House I also sent them a handwriitten snail mail with this plan. I encourage every freeper who reads your post or my post to do the same and let your Congress critters know and tell fiends cowrokers or former coworkers about it get the plan out post it on other bairds if yuou think it will help.

IT'S A GOOD START... :|

Hey, that's the point. But we need more than just a start. We need to to conquer what I call I2 (I-squared, or, Ignorance and Inertia).

What do you think of funding the Fed via tariffs rather than income tax?

It hurts everyone, including me, to have the Chicoms with all that cash on hand for weapons etc. As far as the W-M goal of taking over all merchandising in specific areas, it has happened time after time in towns all over the US. How can you deny that this strategy exists?

I appreciate your ability to enunciate my bitches.

No need to appreciate me. Even Stevie Wonder can see your gripes. They're legitimate.

Since H1B and L1 visa holders are not immigrants but guest workers and there is still a waiting list for immigrant status might I suggest that the people who wish to immigrate to the USA be admitted with prefence to those who bring skills and education that can contribute to the USA. this plan is not anti-immigrant or pro immigarnt it is pro-the American economy

To be honest, I hate it because it's still a tax! ;-)

Seriously, I have no problems placing tariffs on imports that come from nations which have tariffs on our exports. Fair is fair, and thank's to harpseal, I finally got it. Now, I don't support tariffs on imports from nations which don't have tariffs on our exports.

But in China's case, let the tariffs begin yesterday! Wait a minute. I just thought of something. If we do enact tariffs on Chinese imports (even if the company resides in the U.S.), why not make those tariffs retroactive?

On second thought, that's rather draconian. Forget it.

As far as the income tax is concerned, slash and burn 'em. I don't know about an NRT, but a flat 5% with no deductions sounds nice to me. I also believe that this will increase federal revenues.

It's been six months since I went in a Walmart.

I'll pay a little more and support the local stores.

One other thing about the thread you linked. it refers to how the Chinese are now coming forth with the nationalization of automobile technology located within their nation. I encourage everyone to follow that link it is important. Given the fact that GM probably has political risk insurance it could be your tax dollars at stake as political risk insurance is nacked by teh full faith and credit of the US government and the potential liability arround the world is enormous but exactly how enormous would require information from OPIV they do not make available. However, this could make the FSLIC problems seem like pocket change.

Good for you.

In the next economic boom, we will need even more workers than we do now, or else our economy will begin to collapse under the lack of workers.

There is a long waiting list to get into the USA as an immigrant.

She plans on using her auction earnings to continue her swine project next year and put the rest toward a dirt bike or snowmobile.

My kind of girl.

This point is serious and grave in my opinion. I believe that the nationalization of American technology to a hostile nation like China deserves its own separate discussion. It ties in to what we are talking about, but this is dangerous and far more important than jobs.

The question is how would we address this?

While I might like this there is a constitutional provision about ex-post facto laws that should be honored.

Even if it concerns a non-U.S. entity which is not subject to our Constitution?

My initial thoughts were to repudiate OPIC insurance immediately but I am concerned about what this soes to full faith and credit guarntees. A massive increase in the permium might well be in order with notification of an end to the full faoth and credit provisions for the guarantee to allow companies to sell off their overseas factories. I think this combined with the massive increase in premium might be enough to get us out from under but there are still substantial risks to such a policy. I will post a thread seeking ideas for a solotion tomorrow or Monday.

It is my opinion that enogh Freepers working together can hammer oiut a solution to this problem also. I really want a little more time to think about this also. I am not sure I will like the solution but we do need a solution. In some ways I would have no problem with companies that invested overseas which did not purchase politicalrisk insurance taking the hit and either going under or merely writing off their investment. The big question is of course OPIC.

By the way if a company CEO invested in China without using the governemnt insurance. well that is their problem. In the interim I would heartily suggest selling stock of companies which are heavily involved in joint ventures in China.
