I always hate it when people are compared to others "he may be the new Michael Jordon" or "could he beat the BABE's record?" that kind of stuff is irrelevant...the BIG question is: Will California be BETTER off with Arnold as Governor - YES! Will republicans benefit from this unexpected windfall - YES! OK, then the rest is up to Arnold to prove once he's the GOVERNATOR!

I'm not a California voter, so I don't have to make a choice. I really hate to see California go to another pro-abort Republican, but I guess I'd rather vote for Arnie than see Gray Davis get it.

What you say may be true. If Arnie could pull the party together and keep his mouth shut on the abortion issue, then it could lead to some good judicial appointments after 2004. But that will depend not only on Bush getting re-elected, but on gains of at least a few more seats in the Senate. Maybe Arnie could help.

My preference is still for Simon, but practically speaking the chances are now slim after he was betrayed by Parsky and Rove in the last election and the blame for losing was put squarely on him by the media.

It's a kneejerk comparison, certainly favored by the liberal media that still believes Reagan was an empty-headed former actor. Anyone with knowledge of Reagan's bio pre-1966 knows that he was well on his way to political power. There is absolutely zero comparison between Arnold and Reagan except for the fact that they were both successful actors.

Of course, that is like saying that Newt Gingrich and Sheila Jackson-Lee were similar because they were both U.S. reps.

Too high of a target. Is Schwarzenegger another Ventura is a more appropriate question.

If Arnie turns out to be a good governor, hallelujah. If not, we're still better off. Don't Rush and Cal get it?

ah... I beg to differ... Repubs will NOT be better off with
a Rockefeller/spender Repub in office like AS! Usher in
gay marriage does not make CA better and appointing pro-
abortion judges/anti-death penalty judges does not make any
CA-ians better off other than Parsky and the elites.
I'd rather Greyout continue to kill the golden goose as a
Dem than have AS kill the CA Repub party as it is blamed for the fiscal meltdown...
Where was AS in the last election? Not one fundraiser for
a CA Repub candidate??? What a uniter! --NOT

You mean will he increase California's budget like Reagan did? Probably.

No, but Schwarzenegger does have some compelling attributes all his own.

Sorry to throw the icy water of reality on this, but the odds strongly say they will not. This mess won't be solved, or even improved, any time soon. Arnold--or anyone else--can't just go in and void laws, for example, the union contracts. He can't change the idiots in the legislature. And when there is little or no improvement, who gets blamed? Nope, this tar baby has stuck to Doofus Davis and the Republicans are about to step in it also.
