Davis is already dead. There's no time left for him to throw sand in the voters' eyes. If Clinton puts in an appearance, it will be strictly for his own vainglorious self. There's really nothing he can do for Davis anyway. No matter who is governor on Oct 8, I will savor and cherish Gray Davis' ruin. That alone is worth $60 million. The bastard lost us $38 BILLION and he's whining about $60 million. Unbelievable!

...and after October 8, I'll take every opportunity to remind democrats that their man Gray is only the 2nd governor in US history to be recalled from office! I'll tell them to just think how many governors we've had in our country over the last 200+ years. Man, that's gonna be fun.

Re#33 ;^) That picture is something. One of my favorite lines from the Wellstone rally, er, memorial is "The Rats put the 'fun' back in funeral". What a bunch of corrupt poseurs...

Mr. Clinton loves all things political and anything to do with California, a state where he considered settling after leaving the White House. And he has hardly been shy about serving as the Democratic Party's political consultant in chief. But Mr. Clinton was said to be particularly drawn to the California recall because of what he described to associates as disturbing parallels between the post-election effort to remove Mr. Davis and the impeachment that almost led to his own ouster.

Bullcrap.

Bill Clinton sees the California recall of a sitting Democrat governor as the disaster that it is for the party.

It's because of the dissimilarities of Bill's impeachment and Gray's predicament that makes this so national in scope. Gray Davis is being recalled by the voters because of the abject failure of his tax and spend policies, and the fact that Californians detect cronyism and corruption, and they were quick to judge precisely because of Bill Clinton's sleazy reign, and they are fed up,IMHO.

No doubt the Clintons see this as a repudiation of everything they stand for, and also that it will deal a death blow to their aspirations to return to power via Hillary's election to the Presidency.

I think they are all worried that a Republican may not only win, but straighten out the mess in short order.

But do you think that a Republican can straighten out this mess? It seems to me that serious cuts in all services HAS to happen. It is the right thing to do but get ready to be smeared and have people rioting in the streets when their handout starts to decrease. I honestly don't see a viable solution - unless you can convince people that their hand out has to decrease or else it goes away completely forever once the state goes bankrupt.

make sure the fight is about the recall initiative and not about Mr. Davis

As always, when you can't win the debate, argue about the process.

Davis is toast!

Its a tough one no doubt, and Ive not heard one candidate articulate a specific plan, except Bill Simon was interviewed on Fox this AM and he seems to have parts of a plan and a pretty good vision of where to head.

For me, a state can come out of a fiscal mess quicker than the Fed Government because a state can adopt "business friendly" tax and regulatory policy and attract new business relatively quickly. California certainly fits the description of being "business un-friendly. But a true conservative would attempt to increase revenues, root out fraud, and yes, cut spending, and I believe it can be done. Quite possibly Simon, McClintock, and even Arnold could, if they heed the right advice, accomplish this, and I think the Clintons know it.

Nothing like sticking a giant rock in sinking ship. Grey Davis, you have just proven how stupid you really are, there were those who were waiting to see, they no longer are.

Hah, same old fluffy worthless symbolism over substance b.s. The Impeached prez is having phone oral sex with the Recalled Gov. advising Gray to "act gubernatorial".

Hey, Bill, it's a little late to chime in since we've had 5 years of Gray's really lousy "act" and we are sick and tired of paying for it!

Moreover, at $60 Million/Recall, California would need to have over 800 Recall Elections to make up for the irresponsible and reckless democrat spending spree since this buffoon has govenor. Bill's pal Gray, inherited $10 Billion from former Republican Gov. Wilson, and Gray and his merry band of big spender socialists drunkenly careened through $38 Billion in money our treasury didn't even have.
