By using the term "white trash" one is saying that there are trashy whites and non-trashy whites. It infers that all blacks are trash.

What an intelligent looking dog! Scarier looking than you know what, but almost human looking in the eyes. I'm not sure if you'd know the answer to this, but what is the best defense against a vicious dog if you have no weapon to subdue him with?

It's a serious question. I'm wondering if dog experts recommend averting eye contact, playing dead, training with Ben Johnson, you know that sort of thing?

For a few years I've found the term "white trash" troubling. It seems racist to me because there is no equivalent black term.

Funny, my impression has always been that "white trash" is less racist toward whites than the racists terms normally used to to describe blacks.

Whites seem to use the term "white trash" to describe a lower class, almost a separate breed of whites, that they can look down on.

For this reason it doesn't seem to me that "white trash" is a smear against all whites, and so is not a purely racists term.

I don't know if I'm an expert enough to answer definitively, but I've always refused to run and sometimes would actually move towards the dog which startles it. Then again, being 6' 6" and 245lbs. may have something to do with that.

It works for me. The last time I was bitten by a pooch was when I was about 7 by our next door neighbor's poodle.
