This story has no legs. He's a 'Crap, and 'Craps don't have to follow the same rules as everybody else.

It does, actually.

Your remarks are true in general elections where coalitions dominate. That won't be the case in this recall election, so unless, say, Loretta Sanchez gets in, the Dems' black and Latino constituencies will be punching different chad on October 7th, guaranteed.

I'm going to support Arnie, because, he'll win.

I think that's far from a slam dunk. He's a center-left Republican with zero experience, either as a campaigner or an office holder.

Anyway, I'll be voting for McClintock.

But it's great that Bustamonte is running granny. Because that will mean that he'll take the Latino votes away from Gray. Arnie will have clear sailing for a huge landslide.

No, that's not how this recall works. No one is running against Davis. The recall election is an up or down choice. In the event that he is recalled, his successor will be the winner of the most votes from a separate slate of candidates, of which Davis can't be one.

It's very likely that Davis will get more votes to sustain his governership than will the candidate who succeeds him.

BTW, if some number of Dems get in, along with Arnold, there is actually a good possibility that they will split the moderate/left votes, and McClintock could sneak in from the outside with 20% of the vote, and into the governor's mansion.

Constituent coherence is going to be more important in this election than traditional coalitions. This might, in spite of everything else, actually play in favor of conservatives. It's going to be a free-for-all, and a heckuva lot of fun to watch.

Cruz is a bitter, little man. He is the perfect person to stab Govenuh Gray in the back. He would be truely abominable in office. It can only be hoped the GOP can get behind a unifying candidate.

Let's hope so, along with Garamendi, and Ueberroth as an independent. That would fracture the Left and Center votes quite nicely.

Is it possible for someone to vote "yes" to keep Grayout Davis, but at the same time vote for a replacement candidate?

Question on the recall...

I know that it is two parts, and that on the "recall" question Davis must get 50+% to remain Govenor, but is that 50+% of the total votes on question 1? or 50+% of people that vote?

Example, I understand that there was recently a ruling that stated you don't have to vote on the first part to be eligible to vote on the replacement. So lets say 1000 people show up to vote, but only 950 actually vote on the recall question, would Gray need 501(50+% of total voters) "no" votes to win, or would he only need 476 (50+% of question #1 voters) to win?

If it is a close election on vote 1 and millions show up to vote, this could make a big difference, and a convinient legal challange for Gray after the election (You know he'll sue over something)?

Yes, although I'm not sure why you'd want to do that.

In any case, one vote is not required to make the other. You can leave either question blank, for that matter.

50+% of people that vote on that particular part of the ballot. A non-vote in the booth counts no differently than a couch potato's non-vote.

Can I count on being called a "Knee-pad Arnie", too? I can't wait to see what nasty vernacular you come up with for describing the pinkos who are voting for Schwartz.

Thanks, but is that explicitly written in law(not that it would make a difference to Dems)?

I have seen too many Dem lawsuits that I think are slam dunks, only to be shocked at the Courts ruling.

Democrats, who show up for the recall election, first would vote to keep Grayout, then vote for Bustamante as the replacement Governor. This would be done just to keep the RATS in control of California.
