Fake "Ask John Lott" Web Site Steals His Identity, Seeks to Discredit Gun Researcher

"Freedom from satire" is one thing. A mechanism based on deception to harvest email addresses is quite another. Ask any lawyer.

Yes, the Mary Rosh bit was odd, but Lott's claim to using this ID in order to garner unbiased responses to his work has validity. Sounds like you've bought the media hype comparing Lott to Bellesiles hook, line and sinker.

If you think all of this has "ruined his work", as you put it, that's your perogative. Many of us are not so quick to give up, or worse, turn on our own, as you seem to be.

I don't see Lott asking for pity, and yes, he is certainly grown up enough to fight his own battles. A good thing, too, since depending on support from folks like you is obviously a no-go.

Many people use an alias on email or posting on newsites

We do it here on FR to preserve anonomous posting and personal security

I can see many here have zero comprehension or respect of the law and what constitutes a criminal breech of the law

Many use composite names in business

I myself use several first letters of family first names as a corporate name; "dba", which is 100% legal

John Lott says he used the first 2 letters of his kids names to create that web alias

Can anyone prove otherwise?

I see Jonah Dork has used his idiot techniques on NIKE, Victoria's Secret, and on John Lott too

You can bet there are others

It reminds me of hackers that break into websites and create viruses and worms to then offer themselves to the corporations they criminally attacked as "security consultants"

Off course some go to prison

ID theft includes using another's name and identity to pass bad checks, run up phony credit card debt, get state driver's licenses and SS cards, and also to profit unlawfully by stealing another's name, reputation, and good will to profit oneself

For those that think this is a joke I can quickly demonstrate using their SS card, birth certificate, school transcripts, and business credentials

You'll note that Jonah uses John Lott's university resume and sucessful book authorship as his own to operate a counterfeit website in order to profit himself and libel John Lott with fake statements issued as Lott's

Lott made himself a public person and as such forfieted his right to freedom from satire.

This is identity theft, not satire. The Rosh stuff was regrettable, but no one has yet found any fraud in the actual work, something the anti-Constitutionalists want to distract you from with a lot of smoke and mirrors (successfully in your case, it would seem). Even their attempts to smear him based on his claim of a hard drive crash destroying some survey work has come back and bit them in the ass as a) colleagues have verified the crash story and b) others have replicated the results Lott claimed for that survey. Ironically, the libs attempt to smear him resulted in further research that strengthened his claimes.

I agree AR, and that's why I gave "BuzzCook" the benefit of the doubt and replied in a civil manner, despite my suspicions that he's just a troll. Curmudgeons also have a way of coming off that way, too, and many times it hard to tell which is which.
