Also excerpt from the VP
Critics of the liberation of Iraq must also answer another question: what would that country look like today if we had failed to act? If we had not acted, Saddam Hussein and his sons would still be in power. If we had not acted, the torture chambers would still be in operation; the prison cells for children would still be filled; the mass graves would still be undiscovered; the terror network would still enjoy the support and protection of the regime; Iraq would still be making payments to the families of suicide bombers attacking Israel; and Saddam Hussein would still control vast wealth to spend on his chemical, biological, and nuclear ambitions.

All of these crimes and dangers were ended by decisive military action. Everyone, for many years, wished for these good outcomes. Finally, one man made the decision to achieve them: President George W. Bush. And the Iraqi people, the people of the Middle East, and the American people have a safer future because Saddam Hussein's regime is history.

Can someone translate this?
http://www.expressen.se/expressen/jsp/polopoly.jsp?d=442&a=51623

Ja, det kan jag! First, here is the headline and opening paragraph på svenska:

"Bildbeviset mot Saddam"

Nu finns bilder på fynden som kan bevisa att Saddam Hussein hade massförstörelsevapen. Expressen kan i dag som enda tidning i världen publicera de sensationella bilderna. Av upphovsrättsliga skäl kan bilderna tyvärr inte visas på Expressen.se. I största hemlighet har experter från svenska försvaret rest till Irak för att granska materialet - utan att regeringen Persson känt till det.

Now here is my translation:

"The Picture Evidence against Saddam"

Now there are pictures on the finding which can prove that Saddam Hussein had weapons of mass destruction. The Express can today, as the only newspaper in the world, publish the sensational pictures. Because of copyright legalities, the pictures unfortunately cannot be shown on Expressen.se. In the greatest secrecy, experts from the Swedish Defense Department have travelled to Iraq in order to examine the material--without the Persson administration knowing about it.

Is that enough, or do you need more translated? Perhaps someone on our Swedish Ping List who is more fluent than I could take a crack at the rest.

Thanks for the ping. Mr. Mew and I were discussing this a while ago. His maternal grandparents were Swedish :) Wonder how this got this past the WH, though? I thought the admin wanted to keep a lid on this until they were set for the big unveiling? And if these researchers were there without Swedish gov't approval, what do we make of that?

They snuck into Iraq without the US knowing it.....seems one of the people sent was a buddy of Han Blix. They didn't even tell the Swedish government what they were up to.....something about this story is setting off my radar.

If one of these guys is a buddy of Blix's...that sets off my radar, too. And just how did they get into Iraq? And what's in it for them if they end up proving that UNMOVIC was staffed by boobs?

Holy moly. Thanks for the pings. But now my brain hurts. So, the Swedes supposedly went there to see if they'd been set up only to find that the US was right all long? Color me confused.

Ever heard of Expressen.se. ??

It's the website for one of the three main Swedish newspapers, which are (in no particular order):

Expressen ("The Express")
Dagens Nyheter ("The Day's News")
Aftonbladet ("The Evening Paper")

Not according to the paragraph I translated (post 65):

Because of copyright legalities, the pictures unfortunately cannot be shown on Expressen.se.

But that same paragraph does seem to indicate that they are published in the print edition:

Express can today, as the only newspaper in the world, publish the sensational pictures.
